CONCERT TICKETS
As always in the Fall Season we start selling tickets at choir before we take our holiday break.
(Musical Gifts!)
This time they will be available from the choir’s Christmas Market Table from November 24 to
December 18.
Please note: Holiday break runs from Dec. 19 to Jan. 4 and choir starts again Monday,
Jan. 5.
Tickets are $25 regular and $20 for seniors, students and the unwaged.
Please make it easy on the ticket sellers by working out in advance which concerts you want
tickets for, how many of each type you need and their total cost. If you give them away as gifts
and the recipients would like to change the concert night simply bring the tickets back and
exchange them.

BILL HUOT'S YULETIDE MUSIC SAMPLERS
Bill Huot will be selling his annual seasonal music compilations again at every GHC practice
from December 8 to 18.
Bill is a Yuletide music folklorist. These are compilation CDs with detailed interpretive liner
notes focused on various seasonal themes. Some of them feature songs about the birth of
Jesus, the angels, shepherds etc. Some have songs related to the secular celebration of the
Christmas holidays, and others celebrate the pre-Christian Winter Solstice. This year's new
Christmas music sampler is all about 19th century sailor celebration of the holiday.
Each 78 minute (or longer) CD features a wide variety of performers and styles of music,
carefully selected and organized to reward active listening. The musical selections are drawn
from Bills extensive collection of Christmas recordings (many of which are out-of-print).
Bill requests a donation of $15 each $5 for people on low income. ALL of the proceeds are
donated to the Power of Hope and to the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation.
GHC “CURRENT SINGERS ONLY” UPDATE
As announced at choir this past week we will be singing The Old Blue Bridge in the key of G
(one note higher than shown in the handed out sheet music). New sheet music will not be
handed out but the links for this song in our Current Singers Only section now open updates of
both the sheet music and the parts files.
Links to community submitted Lyrics Only sheets (PDF) as well as to Full Lyrics sheets (Word
and PDF) for Sopranos and Tenors have been posted in our Current Singers Only section’s
Current Repertoire list.
GHC PRACTICE CD UPDATE
It is, however, too late to update the Old Blue Bridge parts files on the practice CDs. When
practicing this song with the CD keep the fact that we will be singing the song one key higher
in mind. The good news is that you can still learn your parts from the key of F parts files and
then practice singing them in G by singing along with The Bills’ version of the song that is also
on the CD. It might be good to finish any practice session for this song by singing along with
The Bills so that the last key you sing is the right key.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SING
CHRISTMAS DAY SWAT CONFIRMED AGAIN!
Many of you have participated in the Christmas Spirit Society's dinner when a bunch of us go to sing for the many who are
not able to provide a real Holiday dinner for themselves. It's a wonderful way to give back to our community. There will be
two sittings, about 1:00 and 3:00 for about 90 minutes each when we'll sing a bit for those gathered. I'll send out more
precise details later. The repertoire is a combination of some of our usual "ad hoc" songs as well as familiar Christmas
songs and carols. Song-sheets will be provided.
I will need, as usual, confirmations (by email) of all those who are intending to attend so that I can keep in touch about the
schedule etc.
And, oh yes!... I hope to see you at one of the Soundings concerts, Dec. 13 or 14! (details can be found in the Soundings
News & Business section below.

HELP BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS WITH GENTLY USED CLOTHING (Dec 18)
You can help support Big Brothers Big Sisters in their mission of ensuring over 500 children in the Greater Victoria area
have a match. Since Christmas is coming and you may receive new clothes, you can clear out some you no longer need.
They use the clothes as a key fundraiser to maintain their activities. Please consider bringing a bag of clothes, big or

BOTTLE DRIVE - CYCLE OF HOPE FOR ALS 2015
The Cycle of Hope team managed to raise over $62,000 for ALS in August 2014. $25,000 bought an electric wheelchair
and the rest went to research. If you don't know what ALS is please watch the videos so that you can see why I am so
passionate about this cause.

THE ALLEGRA SINGERS 50 MEMBER COMMUNITY CHOIR

Now in their 18th year!
There will be a mix of traditional, jazzy, and fun take off versions of Christmas favorites as well as internationally flavoured
songs and more all done in beautiful choral harmony. Come and enjoy the chorus, the soloists, the small ensembles, the
piano and a chance for you to sing along to a few your favorite carols to help you get into that Christmas spirit.

MYSTIC JOURNEY
(Dec 6)
Join us for a celebration of the beautiful mystical poetry of the Sufi sages Rumi and Hafiz as read by Adele Worobey and
Glen Timms, accompanied by the acclaimed musical trio Saffron featuring Niel Golden on Tabla, Hung and percussion,
Ken Hall on flutes guitar and oud, and Enrique Rivas on guitar.
This performance is a unique fusion of the Mystical inner journey evoked by the poetry and the dance of a Whirling
Dervish Raqib Burke, accompanied by musical stylings ranging from Middle Eastern to Blues to original music from
Saffron.
Date: Sat. Dec.6, 8 pm , Location: Church of Truth 111 Superior St.

Phil would love to have some GHC singers back him up on Boundary Passage. He will be opening the set, at 9:30, so it
doesn't need to be a late night for any who would like to sing with him.
Sounds like a fun event - wish I could go myself, but alas won’t be home til the following night.
Admission by donation - $10-$30. $15 or more includes a copy of the CD!
All proceeds from the launch event, and CD sales go to front-line pipeline resisters.

SOUNDINGS CONCERTS
(Dec 13 & 14)
For those that have not been to a Soundings concert before, I encourage you to check us out! Soundings is 26 voices,
and we'll take you on a "frosty" musical journey from the 16th century through to "now" with songs of the winter, frost, and
snow. Included will be a beautiful setting of a Robert Frost poem by Eric Whitacre, and a primiere of my own brand new
settings of four short winter poems by Robert Bly.
The concerts will be Saturday Dec.13, 8:00 pm at Oak Bay United church, and Sunday Dec.14, 2:30 pm, at St Mary's
Anglican church, Saanichton. I'll have flyers and tickets at choir evenings from now on.

A TUBA CHRISTMAS

Christmas without tubas is like Halloween without pumpkins!
Need a Christmas spirit boost? Then (trust me) 70 tubas playing Christmas carols ought to do the trick. It will be a
BLAST!

All proceeds to the Times Colonist Christmas Fund (bring coins and dollar bills to throw into a donation tuba which will be
set up)

Local tuba players will be joined by their brothers and sisters from all over the Pacific Northwest. If you plan to stay for the
whole performance, warm clothes and a hot drink are recommended!
