Presentation and Topics for the Call for Papers This symposium hosted in Torrent (Valencia)-Spain, is the first International Symposium on “Recent Advances in Quantitative Remote Sensing” organised by the Global Change Unit, University of Valencia. Papers deal in general with recent advances and applications of the different techniques and research methods used in remote sensing and in particular cover the following topics: 1. Solar spectrum 2. Thermal Infrared 3. Passive Microwaves 4. Active Microwaves 5. Laser active remote sensing and fluorescence 6. Synergistic use of different parts of the spectrum 7. Recent Projects and Earth Observations Missions. 8. Future systems and projects for Earth observation Program The Symposium will highlight recent advances in methodological developments in order to ease scientific exchanges and discussions. The Symposium will consist of 6 plenary sessions allowing about 45 papers plus 3 interactive poster with 25 papers each. The total number of papers is limited to 120. The papers submitted will be subject to a selection process by the International Scientific Committee. The number of participants will be limited to about 200 in order to facilitate exchanges and discussions among the participants. The Symposium will end with a general concluding session prepared by the chairpersons and reporters of each session. The concluding statements will emphasise the key points of the presentations and outline trends in future research programmes. International Scientific Committee Chairperson: J. A.
