Office Hours and Appointments
Office Hours are generally Mon - Fri from 1300 to 1600. These times are posted on my office door. It is generally a good idea to call ahead of time to confirm that I will be in my office on a given date and time.
Care and Cleaning of Training Materials
I expect all training materials (weapons, trucks/vans, radios, tents, sleeping bags, etc.) to be cleaned after each use. The cadet chain-of-command will supervise this effort and will report the results to their respective cadre.
Student Activities
Class Participation: This class is conducted in an interactive manner. Everyone is responsible for contributing to the success of the learning experience. Lectures will be brief and interactive. You will have small group discussions and exercises scattered throughout the semester. You are expected to be on time for every class. Students are responsible to attain covered material for missed classes. Class attendance is worth
100 points.
Leadership Lab: Lab is every Thursday 1300 to 1550 hours. Labs are mandatory.
Special circumstances of late arrival, early departure or missing lab must be reviewed and approved by your instructor and the Professor of Military science. Suitable make-up work will be found if necessary. Cadre, MS III and IV Cadets will observe you and provide input as to your attitude and motivation during labs, the FTX and class. A high degree of motivation is expressed by having a positive can-do attitude, arriving on time, and making the most of all training. Lab attendance is worth 100 points.

Book Report Briefings: Cadets will present a brief on a topic to be announced. Each briefing will be 4-7 minutes in length (Depending on the size of the class). Briefings will be about aspects of either the book “Platoon Leader” or “Killer Angels”. The brief is worth
100 points.
Quizzes: There will be random quizzes throughout the semester at the beginning of class. Quizzes are worth 100 points.
Exams: The Mid-Term is worth 100 points. The comprehensive final is worth 200 points.
Physical Training (PT): There will be 4 Physical Fitness Tests this semester. Your performance and attendance at the APFTs (PT Tests) will be worth 100 points. Your grade will be based 40% on improvement or excellence and 60% on attendance.
Contracted cadets are required to attend PT every Mon, Wed and Fri whether or not
they are enrolled in PE-143R for credit.
Non-contracted cadets who are not enrolled in the Physical Fitness Class (PE 143R) are highly encouraged to attend for their own personal benefit (doing well on the APFT). If you fall under this status, you may also attend normal PT sessions in order to raise your grade. In order to do this, however, you must coordinate with CPT Jungheim and receive prior approval.
Field Training Exercise (FTX): There will be one FTX from 12 to 13 Oct 07. Attendance is mandatory and is worth 100 points.
Extra Curricular Activities: The battalion will hold a number of extra curricular activities during the semester, such as supporting sporting events such as BYU football (Cannon
Crew), ASB flag-detail and the Military Ball. You will receive up to 5 points for each such event you participate in. In order to get credit for participating in these events you must send CPT Jungheim an email. Attendance at Forums and Devotionals as well as other service projects may also count toward this score. Ranger Challenge/Tri Team Members also qualify for extra credit. Extra curricular participation is worth 100 points.
Cadets found not honoring the uniform policy on stated uniform days risk losing points for program participation.
NOTE: The Military Ball is a really fun event. Attending military social events and wearing the uniform is part of the social expectation of Army culture. As such, this is a
“mandatory” event in the eyes of your instructors.

Evaluation and Grading
ROTC is a leadership/ management course designed to prepare individuals to serve successfully as commissioned officers in the United States Army, Army Reserve or Army
National Guard. The principle evaluative device is oriented toward light infantry small unit leadership. All students, regardless of branch preference or experience, are required to successfully demonstrate leadership in the small unit environment.
Evaluations are continuous and are recorded and passed on to successive instructors for their information and utilization.
Honor Code
The Honor Code associated with the United States Army and the BYU Honor Code will be strictly enforced. This code applies to all students participating in ROTC activities both on and off campus. Violation of the honor code may be cause for elimination from the ROTC program and BYU.
Cheating
Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will receive formal written counseling and receive 0 points for the event on which they cheated.

Dress and Grooming Standards
The dress and grooming standards set by the United States Army in Cadet Command
Regulation (CC) 670-1 apply to all students who wear a military uniform. You are required to wear your Class B uniform every Tuesday and ACUs to Thursday’s classes and Leadership Lab. Refer to the Garrison Standard Operating Procedures (GSOP) for standards.
Preventing Sexual Harassment
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination against any participant in an educational program or activity that receives federal funds in order to eliminate sex discrimination in education. Title IX covers discrimination in programs, admissions, activities, and student-to-student sexual harassment. BYU’s policy extends from employees to the students. If you encounter unlawful sexual harassment or gender based discrimination, talk to your professor; contact the Equal Employment
Office at 422-5895 or 367-5689 (24-hours); or the Honor Code Office at 422-2847.
Special Needs
The American with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires universities to provide a “reasonable accommodation” to any individual who advises us of a physical or mental disability.
BYU provides a working and learning atmosphere which reasonably accommodates qualified persons with disabilities. If you have a qualifying limitation that requires accommodation or academic adjustment, contact the “Services for Students with
Disabilities” Office (422-2767). Accommodations are reviewed for students who have qualified documented disabilities. Services are coordinated with the student and instructor by the SSD Office. For assistance or unlawful discrimination contact the
Equal Employment Office at 422-5895, D-282 ASB.
