Illawarra Institute Workforce Development Guarantee Initiative
II Leadership Capability Development Program
Doing business in the 21st Century presents a new vision for TAFE NSW
emphasising a commitment to actively develop the future leaders of TAFE NSW and
to develop capabilities in leadership for business growth and sustainability to meet
challenges of the C21 VET environment.
What is the II Leadership Capability Development Program?
The Illawarra Institute Leadership Development Program is premised on the
existence of core capability domains for leadership within the organisation. The six
key capability domains of a high performing leader identified as critical to leadership
in the 21st Century are:
1. Develops business strategy and provides direction
2. Communicates with influence
3. Demonstrates integrity, awareness and self management
4. Cultivates productive relationships
5. Supports and develops people and teams
6. Achieves results
The Program includes six workshops matching each of the capability areas, offered
across a twelve month period. The focus for each of the workshops is:
Workshop 1. Visioning and Strategic Thinking
Workshop 2. Influence Effectively
Workshop 3. Energy and Time Management
Workshop 4. Partnering for Success
Workshop 5. Creating and Effective Organisational Learning Environment
Workshop 6. Managing Change
The workshops will be facilitated by external leadership experts and will be
contextualised to the Institute and needs of the participants.
At the completion of each workshop participants are to identify and document a
personal project/activity to be completed within 3 weeks. Project/activity outcomes
and learning experiences will then be shared at a follow up “Leaders Connecting”
web conferencing session via Adobe Connect. This session will also be facilitated by
the workshop facilitator.
Each workshop will be sponsored by a senior manager in the Institute. The first
workshop will be sponsored by the Relieving Director, Jai Waters.

What is a Leadership Capability Self Assessment Questionnaire?
The Leadership Capability Self Assessment Questionnaire is a valuable component
of this Program. Its function is to assist you in analysing and assessing your current
leadership capability.
Prior to attending the first workshop you are required to complete the Questionnaire
and a draft Individual Leadership and Development Plan. Please bring both to the
first workshop.
Although it is highly recommended you attend all 6 workshops, you are encouraged
to use the Questionnaire results to prioritise the workshop(s) for attendance.
Please note it is expected that all participants attend the first workshop.
