Explore Students listen to Daniela and Philip discussing leisure activities and answer a series of questions (Freizeit – Free time, Activity 2 from Ins Gespraäch kommen) Your tasks Survey your classmates about their free time In German, students survey other class members about their leisure activities. Sample questions could include: Was machst du in deiner Freizeit? Was machst du gern? Wie findest du…? Students could record their questions and answers on their laptops using Audacity. See also Tools4U- Audacity. After they have collected the information, students use Microsoft Word to write their results in German. Students are encouraged to discuss their first draft with the teacher and that their language is accurate before submitting the final version. 1 © NSW DET 2009 Create a multimedia presentation in German Students use Adobe Presenter to create a multimedia presentation in German about popular leisure activities. Students could collect images of leisure activities from a variety of sources. If they access online images, they should always acknowledge the source. Remind students that as the primary focus of this activity is using German to create the text, they should not spend too much time searching for images. In the text students could include a short description of a number of leisure activities, where people participate in these activities, information about their favourite leisure activity/activities etc. Once they have checked and finalised the text, students can record the accompanying audio using the record feature in Adobe Presenter. Interview a friend in German about their leisure activities This is a pair activity. Students should plan their interview and prepare the questions and answers. They are advised to rehearse it several times, before filming with the laptop webcam and Adobe Premiere Elements. Alternatively, if they prepare only the questions, a non-rehearsed and spontaneous interview can be videoed. Teachers can decide which method will be more appropriate for their students. The follow-up writing task encourages students to listen carefully to their partner’s answers. It also gives students an opportunity to rewrite the information in the third person.
