1.0 Introduction
Background
Business Analysis is a relatively new but rapidly advancing profession that is gaining a
higher profile in projects around the world as it delivers great benefits.
In Australia and indeed the world, Business Analysis is an evolving profession that is
still only in its relative infancy when compared to more mature professions such as
programming and project management. Although in its infancy, there is a growing
recognition by successful organisations that Business Analysis is a critical component to
the success of projects – from idea through definition, development and implementation
phases of the project life cycle.
IIBA® was established in Canada in 2003 and the Australian chapter of that
organisation, the International Institute of Business Analysis – Australia Chapter Ltd
(IIBA® Australia Chapter) commenced activities in 2006. IIBA® Australia Chapter is a
special purpose (not for profit) company limited by guarantee and provides events for
members in capital cities, access to the BABOK® and associated webinars and the
opportunity to obtain Certified Business Analysis Practitioner (CBAP®) accreditation.
IIBA® Australia Chapter membership translates into membership to the wider
international IIBA®.
IIBA® Australia is:
•
Operating under a Not for Profit model, with all revenue reinvested to benefit
•
members and the BA community
•
Independent of commercial favoritism
•
Open and democratic providing members with the ability to nominate for
committee
•
positions and financial records available to members
In the absence of a profit motive, IIBA® Australia exists to:
2
•
Benefit business analysts and those who perform business analysis activities
•
Promote and raise the profile of the business analysis profession
•
Provide opportunities for business analysts to network and learn
•
Develop and provide access to useful knowledge, references, competency
•
frameworks and other tools that are of value to business analysts

World Wide Membership
Across the world there are over 20,000 IIBA® members
In Australia, there are over 2000 IIBA® members from a base of 15 in 2006 and this is
steadily growing
It is estimated there are hundreds more Business Analysts across Australia still to
benefit from IIBA® membership and accreditation.
