ITALIAN CINEMA RETURNS TO LOS ANGELES WITH CINEMA ITALIAN STYLE NOVEMBER 12 THROUGH NOVEMBER 16, 2015 The Egyptian and Aero Theatres October, 26, 2015 – Cinema Italian Style, the annual celebration of Italian film copresented by the American Cinematheque and Luce Cinecittà, returns to Los Angeles for its eleventh edition from November 12th through November 16th, 2015, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, under the Auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles. Following the success of the 2014 screening of the digitally restored version of Cinema Paradiso by Giuseppe Tornatore, Luce Cinecittà will partner again with AFI FEST 2015 presented by Audi. On November 11th, they will present The Music Of Cinema: A Conversation with Paolo Sorrentino and Michael Caine, an evening dedicated to one of the greatest Italian contemporary directors, Paolo Sorrentino, Golden Globes and Academy Awards® 2014 winner for Best Foreign-Language Film for THE GREAT BEAUTY (LA GRANDE BELLEZZA). Sorrentino will present his latest work YOUTH (LA GIOVINEZZA), starring Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano and Jane Fonda at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Cinema Italian Style will open at the Egyptian and Aero Theatres on November 12 with Italy’s official Oscar® submission for Best Foreign-Language Film 2016, Claudio Caligari's final film DON'T BE BAD (NON ESSERE CATTIVO), copresented by AFI FEST, which looks at two friends pulled in different directions by nightlife and criminal activity in the 1990s on the outskirts of Rome. The following delegation of directors and actors will be in Los Angeles for the festival: directors Francesca Archibugi (AN ITALIAN NAME), Piero Messina (THE WAIT), Paolo Sorrentino (YOUTH) and Maria Sole Tognazzi (ME, MYSELF AND HER); actors: Alessandro Borghi and Luca Marinelli (DON’T BE BAD), and Valerio Mastandrea (reputed actor, this time as one of producer of DON’T BE BAD) along with a representative of Italian producers. Screenings include: Ivano De Matteo's THE DINNER (I NOSTRI RAGAZZI), another examination of how close violence is to all of our lives, studying difficult family decisions. The festival moves to the north of Italy and the underworld of Milan, which turns into the milieu of ITALIAN GANGSTERS, a fascinating docudrama by Renato De Maria about the city’s most notorious post-WWII figures intercutting archival footage and actors speaking the gangsters’ actual words. Much of this year’s dramatic fare revolves around family starting with Nanni Moretti’s MY MOTHER (MIA MADRE), starring John Turturro, a look at a stressed-out filmmaker (played by Margherita Buy) whose mother is facing her final days. A family and friends’ dinner drives Francesca Archibugi’s comedy AN ITALIAN NAME (IL NOME DEL FIGLIO), about the question faced by all parents: What should I name my child? Family is also the main character in Cristina Comencini’s LATIN LOVER, in which ex-wives and daughters of a Latin lover, played by Francesco Scianna, gather to hilarious effect to remember his career as an actor. The relationship with a father is explored in the Italian box office hit GOD WILLING (SE DIO VUOLE) by Edoardo Falcone, in which an arrogant atheist father becomes off balance when his son declares his intention to join the priesthood. In THE WAIT (L’ATTESA) by Piero Messina a mother, Juliette Binoche, is mourning her son Giuseppe when his fiancée arrives to spend Easter weekend with him. Unable to break the news to the young woman, Anna allows her to wait for Giuseppe, getting to know this link to her son a little better before the truth inevitably emerges. In this year’s Nastro d'Argento winner for Best Comedy, THE LEGENDARY GIULIA AND OTHER MIRACLES (NOI E LA GIULIA) by Edoardo Leo, the main character isn’t a person, but an automobile that comes into play when three friends (including the director) team up to start an agri-tourism business. Maria Sole Tognazzi brings more romance and comedy with ME, MYSELF AND HER (IO E LEI), starring Margherita Buy as better half of Sabrina Ferilli. As every year, the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles will support Cinema Italian Style, giving a home to a rich selection of documentaries and short films. Cinema Italian Style continues to partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival, presenting Cinema Italian Style in Seattle (Nov.12-19), and starts a new collaboration with Roma Creative Contest, the International Short Film Festival organized in Rome by the Arts Association Images Hunters: a selection of the best short films of the past years will be screened every day before the film program at the Aero Theatre and at the Italian Cultural Institute. CINEMA ITALIAN STYLE will take place at the Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028) on opening night, November 12, and Aero Theatre (1328 Montana Ave Santa Monica, CA 90403) throughout the festival.
