College GO! Week will be celebrated September 24-28th. This week is designed to encourage
students to make college and career plans. In honor of College GO! Week, some colleges waive
their application fees during this week. (i.e. Hanover College, Indiana State University, VU, and

Indiana e-Transcript: the state’s e-Transcript service provides a convenient and secure option for
sending high school transcripts to colleges electronically, a preferred method of many colleges.
To register or request your transcript be sent to the Indiana college of your choice, visit
www.parchment.com or click on the e-transcript link on the Barr-Reeve Guidance Webpage.

The Homework Hotline re-opened September 2. Don’t hesitate to call for evening math and
science homework help throughout the school year. Help is available Sunday through Thursday

The Generations AngelWorx program is in need of TeenAngels. There are two ways you can earn

YoungArts is dedicated to encouraging and recognizing artistic excellence in the visual, literary
and performing arts. Students in grades 10-12 are eligible to apply for the many benefits the
YoungArts program has to offer. The deadline to apply is October 19, 2012.

Students who are 21st Century Scholars can receive fee waivers for SAT/ACT registration fees



Indiana’s 8th District will be hosting an Academy Day for students interested in learning more
about attending a service academy. The event will be take place on Saturday, September 22,
2012 from 8:30-11:00 A.M. at the Vincennes University, Gibson Center in Fort Branch, IN. Please

Purdue Extension is offering a FREE three week series of parenting classes called ‘Parent’s
Night Out’ on Mondays from 6:30-8:30pm at Washington Catholic Library. Classes begin October

U.S. Senator Dan Coats is honored to nominate outstanding students for admission to a military
academy. These are fully funded, four-year federal government programs to attend some of the
most highly respected quality education programs in the nation, that also require military service

Indiana State University will waive their $25 application fee the entire month of September in
honor of College GO! Week. www.indstate.edu

The University of Indianapolis has sent applications for seniors as well as some additional
information that may be beneficial. Students can avoid a $25 paper application fee by applying
online at admissions.unidy.edu/apply.

The University of Evansville has frozen its tuition prices and guaranteed for four years. To learn

Sullivan College of Technology and Design in Louisville, KY offers many programs including
Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Graphic Design, and HVAC(R), Heating,

Students interested in applying to Purdue University should do so online at
www.purdue.edu/admissions. Students wishing to use a paper application should contact
Purdue Admissions to request one.

Indiana University will only be considering official SAT/ACT test scores sent directly from the
testing agencies for admission and merit scholarship consideration. These test scores must be
submitted by November 1 for students to be considered for Automatic Academic and most
Selective Scholarships or Scholar Programs.

Direct Admission for the Kelley School of Business for fall 2013 applicants will no longer include
class rank. The GPA and test score components are the same as 2012.

Students who are completing Indiana’s Core 40 Diploma with Academic Honors are admissible to
IUPUI regardless of cumulative GPA or test score.

Beginning with students applying for fall 2012, Vincennes University will require every applicant
to have a high school diploma earned via passage of a graduate qualifying exam (GQE), or to have
a general educational development (GED) diploma. This means that students who have a high
school diploma earned through a GQE waiver will need to complete certain steps to be
considered for admissions. For these steps please contact the guidance office.

Students planning to apply to Purdue must have their SAT/ACT test scores are sent directly from
the testing agency. Purdue will not accept SAT/ACT test scores listed on the high school
transcript as official scores. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Sward.


College Preview Days/Open Houses
*Students are allowed two days of college visitations during their senior year. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to
set up an individual college visit. To do so, you should contact the Admissions Office at the particular university at least 2
weeks prior to the date you would like to visit. Students must have proper paperwork (2 forms) on file in the guidance office
for the absence to be excused and not count as an absence.
The College of Technology at Purdue University is hosting Windows of Opportunity for Women in
Technology (WOWiT) on Saturday, October 20, 2012 for girls in Project Lead the Way classes. The
purpose of the program is to introduce high school students, especially females, to the College of
Technology and all its possibilities. For more information please visit

Vincennes University is hosting the National Portfolio Day on Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 12- 4
P.M. There will be several different art school representatives from all over the country there to talk with

The Diesel Equipment Technology Program at Wabash Valley College is hosting Diesel Day on October
17, 2012. The event will start at 8 a.m. and end at about 2:30 p.m. and will include lunch and hands on

ITT Technical Institute is having an open house for high school seniors to inform them about the many
opportunities that ITT Tech has to offer. The open house is on Saturday, October 13th from 10 am - 1pm.

University of Indianapolis will be hosting High School Day on Saturday, October 27th for high school
juniors and seniors interested in learning more about U of I. Registration begins at 9am. Students can
rsvp at http://admissions.uindy.edu/rsvp/highschoolday. Everything, including lunch, is FREE!
University of Southern Indiana will host ‘Accounting Day’ on Friday, October 26th from 9:00am
(Central Time) until 1:00pm. Accounting Day is for high school students interested in an accounting
career. The event allows students to learn more about USI’s Accounting Department, but also about

Penn State will be hosting an information session on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 7-9pm at the

University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts is hosting a Talent Day on September 22, 2012.
This day gives students interested in attending the University of Saint Francis the opportunity to submit a

University of Southern Indiana: USI will be hosting Southern Hospitality Days on numerous dates this

Rose-Hulman: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers individual visit days throughout the week. To

University Of Evansville: U of E has scheduled several open houses for prospective students. Upcoming

course that will provide help with taking standardized tests, and improve math, language arts, and

The College Board is introducing important changes to help ensure greater fairness on test day.
Effective with the October 2012 test, students will be prompted to provide a photo during
registration for the SAT. Students must present their Admission Tickets (and acceptable photo ID)
to enter the test center. Standby testing will not be permitted. Effective with the March 2013 SAT,
students will be required to provide a photo during registration.
