1. Review action items – September 15 Directors’ meeting, review minutes
 Below is from 9/15/11 minutes:
 Action Items: Newsletter
 Mary: CNA testing and how it leads to jobs.
 NFN: RN specialty training with Enloe and WIB. Pay for cost of taking those exams. New one
needs enrollment. ETP and Enloe.
 Christina: Psychiatric Technician review exam developed under the CTE Tech Prep Demo Site
grant funded program by Mission faculty. New/only one developed so far.
 Natalie: article on test scores – Innovative Strategies.
 Ann – Resource – Cultural Linguistics.
 Lyla: Linking HS students/Nov conference – career pathway.
 Patricia: thought process – greening of the hospitals/curriculum, jobs, sonography?
 Mary suggests: Updates, HIT, new grads.
 Linda suggests CA Pilot.
 Article on program completions on health occupations.
2. Update on HWI Director positions
a. Mission
b. Santa Barbara
3. Educators’ Institute Speakers
 Mary to email Susan for phone number.
4. CNA Testing
 Pearson VUE & DPH have worked it out. Pearson VUE has already sent results. One glitch; when
someone tests at the Red Cross, then come to us, 2 different vendors is complicated, but
working on resolving it. (Red Cross uses themselves-no outside vendor).
 Cynthia has talked to Kathy; could be regional center thru HWI. Has to work out details. May
come down to Mary and Kim to get training.
 Danny, Christina and I to work on Thursday meeting.
 Hopefully done by mid November.
 LTC person is Sharon Keller, works at Kaiser & faculty at Mission. If doesn’t work out, will get a
couple additional names.
 Have to be an RN level with 1 year LTC experience as licensed nurse (LVN or RN).
5. 3CNAC Meeting – October 4, next meeting Dec 8 Sacramento
 Brenda/Kathy/Linda at 3CNAC meeting 10/4/11. Re-focused group to CO needs. Will work on
assessment testing, updating guidelines, and more clarification on status of test.
 AB1295 focus/collaboration. Academic Senate is moving ahead. DIG Incident Group. Need to
get faculty that are working on AB1295.
 Collaborative are in most regions: CO funded 5 that are done, Foundation funded 2 that are
done, and some were funded thru CINHC and the Betty Moore Foundation.
 Orange County collaborative has enrolled 24 students. Saddleback & Golden West are leads
on that, enrolling once they are in the program 2nd year into Cal State Fullerton.
 Collaborative to continue work and TMC is another process.

 Outcome: all nursing programs to have template on website with entry/admission
criteria/requirements for all programs.
 Dec 8, Sacramento, VC Van Ton-Quinlivan will attend.
 Carolyn Arnold may be invited for planning to do TEAS V analysis. Kathy/Brenda to think it
through and get back to Linda. May be put off until April. Linda has contract but can exit out, it
ends December 2011.
6. COADN Meeting – October 5-7.
 Mary did 2 presentations.
 They had very nice poster that HWI hosted speaker/breakfast. Speaker was good.
 Handed out almost all newsletters (about 180 attended).
 Friday was IOM and Leadership. Issues that faculty might run up against with students.
 Next is Mar 1 & 2, Linda is working w/planning group. Mary to give update on new grad
transition course. Want to do breakouts on IOM recommendations.
 Try to get collaborative to give presentation. Linda suggested Ed O’Neil from the Center for the
Health Professions at UCSF. HWI could fund speaker.
7. CCCAOE
 Natalie presenting Pathways at pre-session, and CTE Sectors: Focusing on Sustainability
(SB70/SB1133) twice on Friday.
 Attending: Mary, Trudy, Lyla, Ann; Linda encourages all to meet Van after her keynote.
 Thursday Keynote: Brad Phillips use to work for the RP Group and did early year’s research for
HWI (was CalPASS group). He’s now Institute for Evidence-Based Change (IEBC), re-invention.
 Attend regional meetings on Thursday.
8. Other meetings attended or scheduled
 Health Professions Consortium Sustaining Pipelines in Difficult Times
 Christina, good opportunity to network with pipeline groups. Interesting speakers. Breakout
workshops: UC Davis Med School STEM review, good to be represented.
 Lyla, Thurs had couple keynoters discussed health care throughout CA, ratio is 1 MD to
9,000 patients, and built a case on recruiting K-12. Cindy Beck conversation about setting up
HOSA.
 Natalie has been to the last 2 fall conferences, a lot of good info, gathering people around,
an illustration of the problem and what we want to do. Christina shared HASPI info with
Jeff; Natalie will be in touch.
 The Consortium and the Health Workforce Alliance are merging.
 Mary will attend Dec 8 CHWA in LA, Ann will try to attend.
 Mary calendar has community clinic Sacramento Nov 2-3 – take off at this time/appears not to
be happening. CPCA Workforce Conference, Caryn Rizell is gone. Trying to find a connection.
Linda working with Steve Barrow contact now.
 Mary will phone into CINHC steering committee in Sac. Deloras to retire in June, heavily
involved in CA Action Coalition. Also lost diversity person. Ida Danzey was appointed to the
CINHC Board. Financially better off, has some funders.
 CA Action Coalition; Mary to Burbank Nov 3, Linda to attend/but have existing commitment as
speaker. Stephanie/push on to get HWI more involved.
 Monday Dec 5, some funders roundtable in LA and want all HWI people. Schedule conflict:
Ambulatory Care RN is Dec 5.

 Mary on conf call re workgroups up and running, are getting more people who want to be
involved. Co-champions not sure what to do except to spread the word. Mary’s contact is
Mary Dickow. Should focus on #4 and the handful that made sense. More to come.
 Mary alternates between ACNL Orange County and Inland Empire.
 Dora Harris is retiring in Dec/Jan.
 Christina Nov 7-8 Health IT meetings in Sac. Linda on the 7th only.
9. Update on CA Pilot Projects
Healthcare Workforce Development Acceleration, California Pilot
Innovative healthcare workforce training to fill unfilled jobs, core curriculum, and stackable
credentials.
a. Decided on 2-3 projects:
 Saddleback funded/Ray to BOG in Nov; Brenda thinks SB70 and may not fund until Feb.
Linda thought it was IDRC to be funded now; Brenda/Kathy to contact Ray.
 Linda funding Sacramento City College.
 Rock is funded by funding collaborative for his MA and it can be used as a project.
b. Political very interesting, report to president last week, then press release in Sac/but no word.
c. Focus on basis skills for allied health. SCC organizing common package. Van has us working with
other funding groups. Will keep posted.
d. Ca Tele health networking opportunity, last week Linda met with UC Davis.
10. CA Telehealth Network opportunity – Health IT Curriculum
 Met October 11 with UC Davis who has a broad band grant; model e-health over state,
$240K/year for 2 years for CC involvement to have faculty create e-health curriculum,
MA/nursing/computer science areas.
 Money to Saddleback to get started on Health IT curriculum. How to get in sharable format.
Mary doesn’t have curriculum yet, maybe fund it as a curriculum. Mary looking at only 2 classes
and they were generic Health IT.
 Linda, also look at MA. Is it more broad-based?
 Take same format as cultural linguistic competencies and breakdown to integrate into
curriculum.
 Does Saddleback have people that we can hire/faculty for curriculum development, or any other
school have faculty interested?
 Lyla wrote into work plan for spring, have it ready by end of spring semester. Lyla to f/u.
 Mary sending email to Donna the Dean, she is the one that has the whole HIT grant and
developed curriculum as stand-alone, but also as part of the MA pathway.
 Lyla needs more than that; from education point of view/need very detailed syllabus. Lyla
timeline on IT person being hired-by end of this semester.
 Linda to get more detail tomorrow on conf call: Rio Hondo IT and Saddleback.
11. Project Update
a. Ambulatory Care RN
 Mary is consulting lead to help Rio Honda John Cordova and Suzanne Tang for Advisory
Meeting Dec 5 at Sheraton Ontario Airport Hotel.
 Could use Bay area clinic RN primary care, non Kaiser; Christina to send Linda advisory
committee list.
 Dec 6 John to complete Sim Tech curriculum.
b. Cultural Competency
 See Ann’s email with final edits on first five models.

 New topic: Lesbian and gay sexual orientation and different cultures. Legislation passed to
teach in K-12.
 Roll out others over future quarters.
 Linda confirmed approval, conditional to inclusion of bibliography/references; handouts are
identified with the module name/title.
 Prior to offering, will document CCCCO requirement.
 Ann to invite Rosanna to present at the January 20, 2012 advisory meeting in Sacramento.
c. CDE CTE Model Curriculum Standards
 Lyla asked about health area specifically, ready maybe by Feb.
 Possible meetings scheduled in November. Contact Cindy Beck directly.
d. Community Health Worker
 Environmental scan. Jobs not there.
 Ann, interest for Health Care Interpreters. Give series of key job titles/key words.
