The California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative Work Plan, Objectives & Activities NOVEMBER 2009 update Mission: To advance a preventive environmental health agenda to assure the health and safety of the nail and beauty salon communities. Improve Permissible Exposure Levels for harmful chemicals in nail care products, such as toluene and DBP to make them more protective. 3. Assisting with establishing appropriate ventilation standards for nail salons in conjunction, if necessary, with other state agencies (ie. BBC, CARB) 4. Improve usefulness of MSDS by making more user friendly and translating into appropriate languages 5. Translating relevant health and safety documents, complaint and inspection request forms. Ensure that the process for reporting health hazards to Cal/OSHA, filing complaints and requesting inspections is linguistically accessible and that inspectors as well as appeal process staff speak the primary languages of the nail salon community. 6. Develop culturally competent and linguistically appropriate materials related to health and safety issues and related protective actions. Collab members concluded CARB site visits would not result in overly negative consequences 1) Work with CalOSHA, HESIS, LOHP on CalOSHA workplace guidance document. Identify steps necessary to ensuring that the document moves forward in line with the Collab’s vision 11/09 CalOSHA has developed 1st draft and sample E-tool.
