Job Purpose
To plan, develop and deliver training in accordance with the People Services Departmental strategy and the
Force Training Plan.
To provide support and assist in the development of students attending their courses.
To undertake course development preparation and evaluation and assist in the design of new programmes
where appropriate.
The post-holder is responsible for providing training input and support to the training programme alongside
colleagues delivering quality products and services.
Main Responsibilities

National Police Training for Student Officers - Develop, organise and deliver ‘Student Officer
training programmes in accordance with the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme –
including the updating and writing of lesson plans including the submission of lessons for Quality
Assurance.

Induction Training and Training for the Special Constabulary, Police Community Support
Officers and some police staff- Develop, organise and deliver Induction Training and Training for the
Special Constabulary and Police Community Support officers. There is also a responsibility for some
Police Staff, for example the initial training of communications staff.

Other Training – Develop, organise and deliver other training as directed to meet the organisational
demand.

IST software training - Preparation, testing, input and training of force and police specific IST
software systems.

Supervision of students – Writing probation reviews, conducting tutorials, writing action plans and
managing welfare.
6.
Staff development – Through coaching, mentoring and tutoring members of staff who have
performance issues, confidence issues, have been away from core duties for a period of time or require
development for any reason.

Alternative Delivery Methods - Assist in the development, research and evaluation of delivery by
blended learning.
8.
Departmental Representation - Represent the Training Department with internal and external clients.
9.
Assessment – Assessment of competence against National occupational standards.

There is likely to be approximately 30 weeks of classroom delivery per annum.
The postholder will be responsible for the care and maintenance of miscellaneous support equipment and
materials.

Criteria
Level 3 Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector (PTLLS),
Level 4 certificate in teaching in the lifelong learning sector (CTLLS),
Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development, Certificate in
education, Postgraduate certificate in education, NVQ 4 in training and
development or an equivalent qualification.
A1, D32 /D33 Assessor awards
Previous experience in a professional training environment.
Experience of the planning, development and delivery of training.
Carrying out Training Needs Analysis, design, training delivery and
training evaluation.
Experience of coaching, mentoring and/or developing people.
Computer literacy and keyboard skills.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and
Excel.
Proven training delivery skills including, assessment, monitoring,
feedback and evaluation.
Fully effective written and verbal communication skills.
Fully effective presentation skills.
Willingness to learn new skills, work pro-actively, and take
responsibility for personal development.
IST software delivery skills.
Ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
Ability to maximise the potential of others.
Up to date knowledge of the latest developments in training.
Knowledge of law and law enforcement.

After Training
Qualifications:
Recognised training qualification at Level 4.
Experience:
Planning, developing and delivering training in an organisational context.
Delivering courses in a project orientated yet dynamic organisational context
Communicating effectively with staff at all levels of the organisation and
outside agencies.
Assisting the Wiltshire Police in its ability to deal with major incidents where
resourcing is required.
Skills:
Assessing competence against national occupational standards.
Proven ability to develop and deliver both internal and National Police Training
courses in line with departmental processes and quality assurance procedures.
Proven ability to co-ordinate internal training projects from planning through to
evaluation taking full account of client and organisational demands.
Ability to develop and adapt to changing working practices in order to meet the
demands of Wiltshire Police, new legislation or new policies introduced within
the Force.
Accreditation to deliver certain IT courses; e.g. PNC, Holmes.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of the systems, procedures and policies utilised in the delivery of
Training for Wiltshire Police.

Wiltshire Police provides a 24 hour 7 day a week service therefore applicants should be prepared
to be flexible in their approach to working hours.
The post holder should have access to a vehicle or be able to make alternative arrangements to
meet the requirements of the post.
Where applicable the post holder will be expected to wear a uniform at all times when on duty.
You will be required to attend all necessary and relevant training courses in respect of your
employment to ensure compliance with the policies of the Force.
There will be a requirement to deliver training at all locations across the force and at times at
weekends and evenings and there is an expectation for you to be flexible with regards to this.
