PRODUCT DATA
CHO’S POSSA products are synergistic blends of synthetic dispersing polymers, sequestering,
And chelating agents designed to protect boilers from mineral deposition. The product line in –
clues variations of formulas using oxygen scavengers, corrosion inhibitors, alkalinity builders,
dispersing polymers, and condensate system corrosion inhibitors.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
All natural water contains dissolved mineral salts such as calcium, magnesium and iron bicarbo nates. As the temperature of the water increases, these bicarbonates decompose into calcium,
magnesium and iron carbonate salts. These carbonate salts are much less soluble than the bicarbo –
nates. The result is a precipitation of the excess carbonates which become hard, rigid deposits.
Mineral deposition occurs on heat transfer surfaces in a boiler. This deposition acts as insulation,
lowering the heat transfer coefficient. Which reduces the heat transfer capability, significantly
increasing fuel consumption and fuel costs. The insulating properties of these deposits subject
metal surfaces to excessive temperatures causing them to crack, blister, or rupture. In extreme
cases, complete system failure occurs. Mineral deposits result in increased maintenance and fuel
costs and reduce equipment life.
Typically a boiler will be above or below the recommended residual range intermittently. During
These times, minerals may precipitate out of solution and form deposits. When this happens, a
Phosphate – based program is inadequate. The POSSA program is specifically designed to effect lively control deposition when parameters are outside their normal operating limits. POSSA incor –
prorates synthetic dispersing polymers which adsorb the solid during the process of precipitation.

The primary function of POSSA Boiler Water Treatment is to control mineral deposition. The
program is based on polymeric organic, sequestering and chelating additives which inhibit the
precipitation of minerals when used at a substoichoimetric level. This type of treatment is com monly called threshold inhibition. Laboratory tests have shown that only one part per million of
active POSSA has the ability to inhibit the precipitation of 600 ppm of calcium carbonate for at
least seven days at room temperature and a pH of 8.5 The normal solubility of calcium carbonate
in these conditions is only 13 ppm. The POSSA program utilizing threshold inhibition is more
cost – effective than archaic, phosphate – based method of boiler water treatment.
