Programs do not attempt to coerce students to worship or embrace a particular set of beliefs or value system. Connections merges the university’s hallmarks of faith, learning, and service together to educate, challenge, and prepare students to live and act responsibly in this world. Blackboard Materials related to Connections can be found on Blackboard including the syllabus, speaker list, and other important information. Requirements for graduation See University Bulletin, website, or contact Office of Campus Minister. Credit is given as follows: A – attendance at 13-15 Connections sessions; B – attendance at 12 sessions; C – attendance at 11 sessions; D – attendance at 10 sessions; F – attendance at 9 or fewer sessions. It is important for students to keep track of their attendance. You may check your attendance on Blackboard. Connections meets Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in Turner Auditorium. Students must be inside the auditorium when the session begins. No student will be allowed to enter after the program has started as a matter of respect and reverence for the gathering. Anyone leaving prior to the completion of the program will be counted absent. Attendance is taken by a student swiping his/her student ID at one of the exits to Turner Auditorium upon dismissal. For this reason, it is imperative that students have a valid Campbell ID. Students are allowed two opportunities be present and accounted for without ID. Each student is assigned to a particular seat for the semester. This is to facilitate hundreds of students entering and exiting the auditorium in a timely fashion. If there is any confusion about seat assignments (e.g. seat is double-assigned or someone else is mistakenly sitting in your seat), it is the student’s responsibility to tell a Campus Ministry staff member or contact the Office of the Campus Minister in the Wallace Student Center. It is important to clear up such matters as quickly as possible. Excused Absences The student will be permitted an excused absence due to: -Hospitalization or confinement in the University Infirmary during day(s) of the period(s) in question. A letter from the attending physician will be required as confirmation of the hospitalization during the times involved. Documented illnesses or visits to doctors may be excused if proper documentation is provided. -A death in the immediate family (father, mother, brother, sister, child, husband, or wife) requiring the student's absence from the campus during the missed Connections. -An absence caused by representing the University on or away from campus. A note from coach, staff, or faculty member is required. In order for a student to be eligible for an excused absence for one of the above reasons, the administrative details (letters and supporting documentation) must be worked out with the Office of the Campus Minister within two weeks from the date that the absence occurred. An excused absence allows the student the opportunity to make-up the missed day(s) but does not erase the absence(s) from the student’s record. Connections is a central part of the Campbell experience. Sessions are planned to include persons from on-campus as well as guests to the University. During Connections, it is expected that all students exhibit mature, responsible, and reverent behavior. Students should exemplify reverent behavior by removing hats/caps/hoods/headphones, refraining from talking, and ceasing the use of iPods, laptops, cell phones, all other portable electronic devices, studying with notes or textbooks, or anything else that might detract from worship. Texting on cell phones is prohibited.
