Incoming Exchange Application Instructions KEEP THIS PAGE FOR YOUR REFERENCE In submitting your application for exchange to Carleton, it is important to ensure that all requirements are completed and enclosed. Please use the following checklist for reference. CHECK LIST FOR SUBMISSION (for detailed instructions available online) Incoming Exchange Application Form. TYPE DIRECTLY ONTO THE FORM. Hand written forms will not be accepted. Form must be completed and signed. For course selection, applicants must provide list of prerequisites provided for upper year course selection. Lack of sufficient prerequisites can cause a delay in processing. All applicants must present adequate evidence of sufficient preparation/background for the courses they're interested in here by providing descriptions (in English) of the courses they've taken. A course number and title is not sufficient. EXCEPTIONS Journalism, Computer Science and Engineering courses, require course descriptions, outlines and possibly the syllabus of the prerequisites to their course selection must be provided in addition to list of prerequisites. NOT OPEN TO EXCHANGE Information Technology Public Affairs and Policy Management 4th year English courses 4th year Law courses GRADUATE STUDENTS Graduate applicants must make their own arrangements should they require a supervisor and provide sufficient documentation to the department and the International Student Services Office. Architecture not available to graduate students. Final admission is determined by the graduate department. Official transcript (academic record) included. Document must be an ORIGINAL or endorsed by the home institution and translated into ENGLISH. Copy of valid passport photo identification. Should be valid for at least 6 months past your return date of travel. Portfolio for Architecture or Industrial Design Course(s) (if applicable) Official Proof of English Proficiency (required unless otherwise stated in exchange agreement). Document must be ORIGINAL and translated into ENGLISH. Proof of English proficiency required. TOEFL, IELTS and CAEL are accepted. Minimum scores for these tests are: Interned Based TOEFL (iBT) 86 with a minimum of 22 in writing and speaking and 20 in reading and listening; Computer Based TOEFL 237; Paper Based TOEFL 580; IELTS 6.5 with minimum of 6.0 in each band; CAEL 70. Document should be an original, test date no more than 24 months from time of application, and officially translated into English. Graduate applicants should contact the department offering the program they are interested in for the ESL requirement may vary for graduate programs. ON-CAMPUS RESIDENCE APPLICATION – Online application. On campus housing is not guaranteed but there are a number of spaces reserved for exchange students. Register early to ensure a placement in residence. Check the Housing website for important dates and deadlines. You will need your Carleton University Identification Number (CUID) also known as your Student Number to apply on-line for residence accommodation. You will receive your CUID after your Incoming Exchange Application Form has been processed and a letter of acceptance has been sent by the Exchange Program Coordinator. HOW TO READ A COURSE NUMBER BUSI 4303 [0.5 credit] For example: BUSI identifies the course and in this case, means this is a Business course [0.5] indicates a half credit course (one term only) [1.0] indicates a full credit course (Sept-April) Course Year Level: Indicates the year level. For 2000, 3000 or 4000 courses, read the description of the pre- requisite(s) VERY carefully to make sure you possess the required background knowledge. For each upper-level Carleton course that you select, you must include your pre-requisite experience or you will not be permitted to take the course Course Selection (in order of your preference) Select 8 courses for one term or 14 for two terms in the chart below.
