Social Entrepreneurship is one of the most significant drivers for social change with double or triple bottom lines - Social enterprises achieve the ultimate social and environmental mission with sustainable business mechanism. The global trend attracted Ivy League graduates, ex-presidents, Nobel laureate, famous chef, investment/business gurus and tons of other change makers to get involved. In this course, students are expected to learn through a brand-new engagement process: interactive lectures, SE guest speakers, social innovation workshop, social enterprise visits, SE Summit, and with a lot of global and local SE cases etc. The action-based approach method will lead to a final project ready to submit as entry of HK SE Challenge organized by CUHK. The course is designed and managed by Social Ventures Hong Kong www.sv-hk.org. The course serves as a foundation course to enroll in the GESC2230 The Road to Social Entrepreneurship that focuses on service-learning. Expected Learning Outcomes: 1. Arouse Interest: able to appreciate the significance as well as fun part of SE 2. Build Knowledge: able to quote some famous cases and stories of social entrepreneurs 3. Analyze & Criticize: able to analyze the goods and bads of SEs, and potentially able to provide consultancy 4. Learn in Action: able to participate in social entrepreneurship, e.g. volunteering, entering competition, internship etc Teaching and Learning Activities: 1. Lecture: Inspire with knowledge, sharing, video 2. Innovation Workshop: Deepen understanding of social innovation process 3. SE Field Visit: Direct touch of SE and their management 4.
