Thank you to those clubs who have meticulously inputted this information on Rugby First, however we
are still missing quite a lot of information for these key volunteers within your clubs – please can you
complete the attached pro-forma and send back to development@surreyrugby.com
It is important that we know who these people are so that we can ensure the right information is

6. vRugby – Seeking Young Volunteers to be Club Activators
Do you have young volunteers within your club who you would like to put forward for further
development, mentoring and support? We are looking for 7 clubs to put themselves forward to take
part in the vRugby campaign, and for their Club Activators (young volunteers) to run specific projects on
one of the four themes below:
Background information for vRugby applicants
vRugby aims to create over 3,744 new opportunties over 3 years from 2008 to 2011 for young people
aged 16-25 to volunteer in Rugby Union. Young volunteers will run ‘bite size’ projects that really benefit
their club or local community. They will receive training, clothing, certificates and expenses. Having
‘tasted’ rugby volunteering they will be shown paths to longer term voluntary roles at rugby clubs. The
taster projects will be one of four themes:
vRugbyFun Plan, organise and deliver a fun rugby event for others to take part in healthy exercise.
vRugbyLife Use rugby’s ethos to run a session to educate young people about healthy lifestyles
(nutrition, exercise, obesity, alcohol, drugs, behaviour, etc.)
vRugbyCash Raise money for a project of your choice to benefit your rugby club.
vRugbyForce Make an improvement to your club facilities so they can be used more by your local
community.
The Rugby Football Foundation and v, an independent charity championing youth volunteering in
England, are funding the project. Community Rugby (Rugby Football Development Ltd) will be
delivering the project.

10. BBC Sports Unsung Hero 2008
With the Olympic and Paralympics in Beijing producing so many British medallists, and London 2012
now less than four years away, this award seeks to recognise the people who devote their time, energy
and effort to helping more people enjoy sport around the UK.
Last year’s overall winner was the remarkable 85-year-old Margaret Simons of Bardwell Football Club in
Bicester. She founded the club in 1964, bought the nets kits, balls, medical kits and refreshments from
her own money, and was chair, secretary, treasurer, manager and coach to the 20 children in her first
year. An estimated nearly 3,000 children between ages of seven and 16 have now represented the
club, which has teams in four different leagues.
Nominations for the 2008 BBC Sports Unsung Hero Award can be made at
www.bbc.co.uk/sportsunsunghero The closing date is Friday 31st October. 15 regional winners will
be chosen from around the BBC's Nations and Regions in November. The overall 2008 winner will be
announced on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show live on BBC ONE on Sunday December 14
from the Echo Arena in Liverpool. Bursaries of up to £2,500 are also available to each regional winner,
to help them and their club in their work with sport in the community
