Regional NSSE User Drive-In Workshop Wichita State University April 19-20, 2007 Building on the success of past user workshops hosted by partner institutions such as University of Central Oklahoma (Edmond ), University of Central Florida, Illinois State University, and Southern Connecticut State University, the NSSE Institute has scheduled a drive-in regional workshop to be hosted by Wichita State University, Newman University and Friends University on the Wichita State campus. Interested colleges and universities are encouraged to send teams to the workshop scheduled to begin with registration at 12:30 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2007. The workshop will end on Friday, April 20, 20076, at noon. NSSE workshops provide opportunities for participants to exchange ideas on their use of NSSE and FSSE, to become more proficient in using results for accreditation and institutional improvement initiatives, to communicate results to different audiences, to gain insight into educationally effective practices, and to consult with NSSE staff members. New to the workshop program is an optional post-conference, hands-on SPSS workshop to which participants are also invited. Visit our User Workshop site for details on registration, session proposal submissions, tentative schedule, hotel accommodations, and travel information. Sessions for the workshop will be scheduled in early spring. Please check the Web site for updates on the workshop program. The fall 2006 Regional NSSE Users Workshop at Southern Connecticut State University welcomed over 130 participants from 74 institutions. Presentations from all previous workshops are available for your convenience on the NSSE Web site. Comments from previous workshop participants: All of the sessions were very good. I was new to NSSE data and instruments so this was extremely helpful. Well organized – excellent conference! [I had] a better understanding of how to use NSSE results in assessing our student affairs/support services. [I learned about] improving response rates, using data to internally create additional reports, using NSSE data in ways I wouldn’t have thought of (e.g. course evaluations). Actual examples (in handouts) of what institutions did was very helpful. I collected ideas that I can go home and use. 1 Regional NSSE User Workshop Wichita State University Thursday and Friday, April 19-20, 2007 About the Workshop Workshop Registration and Fees Submit a Session Proposal Schedule Hotel Accommodations Travel Information and Directions Print Workshop Information Received your NSSE results but unsure how you will use them? Need ideas on how to communicate your results to internal and external audiences? Want tips to maximize your response rates? Interested in sharing your assessment success stories with and learning more about NSSE from other users? ABOUT THE WORKSHOP Please join us for a spring Drive-in Workshop to learn how colleges and universities can use NSSE as a foundation for institutional improvement. The NSSE Institute is offering a Regional NSSE Users Workshop co-hosted by Wichita State University, Friends University and Newman University. Representatives from interested colleges and universities are encouraged to participate in the drive-in workshop beginning at 12:30 pm on Thursday, April 19 and ending at noon on Friday, April 20, 2007. The workshop will be held in the Metropolitan Complex on the Wichita State campus. The regional workshops are designed to allow institutional researchers, faculty, administrators and staff an opportunity to better understand their survey results and gain ideas for using NSSE data from both peer institutions and NSSE staff members. More specifically, the workshop offers help in interpreting NSSE data for new and experienced users as well as more targeted sessions on how to use NSSE data for assessment, accreditation, self-studies, general education reviews, program reviews (curricular and co-curricular), and faculty development. These ideas are shared in a collaborative environment and delivered in a two-day workshop. Through a combination of plenary sessions, concurrent interest sessions, and group activities, participants will learn more about linking NSSE data to other institutional data, using the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) to understand faculty expectations for student engagement, and understanding educationally effective practice. Links to information on registration, session proposal submission, hotel accommodations, and travel instructions are available on our Web site. 2 WORKSHOP REGISTRATION AND FEES Registration Fee: The registration fee for the Regional NSSE Users Workshop at Wichita State is $100.00 and includes all workshop sessions, workshop handouts, dinner on Thursday, continental breakfast and boxed lunch on Friday.
