Keynote Address- Speaker: Dr. Philip Michael Tuts, Professor and Chair,
Department of Physics, Columbia University
Engineering and Operation of the Large Hadron Collider, the largest instrument in the world.
This collider is used to study sub-atomic particles. It is located near Geneva, Switzerland, more
than 560 feet below ground, and traverses a path with a diameter of more than 16 miles. In 2013
this operation received a Nobel prize in Physics for confirming the existence of the Higgs Boson
over which scientists had theorized for more than 30 years.
