Here are some questioning tips to engage students in daily instructional practices within text: Questions should be purposeful and limited in quantity…focus on the quality. Questions are developed to assist with understanding of key details in a text Are sequential in that they build upon each other towards a targeted understanding Lead to the understanding of a concept, theme or “big idea” A variety of differentiated questions (low/high level) should be asked within the lesson Asks clarifying follow-up questions to get students to explain and/or justify their thinking Provide enough wait time after questions are asked CELDT levels will be updated in Misis, and unofficial scores have been placed in the teachers' mailboxes. **Supplemental non-fiction text can be found on newsela.com Attendance News: Please remember to document all tardies daily. Your reporting must reflect accurate attendance data in order to provide support as needed. Verify your reason codes for all absences and tardies. All students are reported ‘here and on time’ at 8:10am. Any student entering your classroom after instructional time should have a tardy slip for appropriate marking. New Speech Therapists: Lauren Applebaum and Janine Presti are the new speech-language pathologists at Playa Del Rey Elementary School. Lauren will be treating students on Wednesdays in the library and Janine will be treating students on Fridays in room 13 and/or the library. Monitoring should be administered every 10 days for intensive level; and every 20 days for strategic level. The assessment should be given as frequently as needed to assess progress.
