End Workshop of the project FLC 09-04 & 10-04 and Scientific Workshop “Community-based adaptation to climate change and policy linkages” On June 21, 2011 the Institute of Resources, Environment and Biotechnology - Hue University (IREB) held an end workshop of the project FLC 09-04&10-04 “Communitybased adaptation to climate change and policy linkages in Thua Thien Hue province” combined with the Scientific workshop “Community-based adaptation to climate change and policy linkages”. Dr. Dang Trung Thuan, Chairman of Vietnam Association of Geochemistry (VAG). Dr. Nguyen Huu Ninh, Chairman of Scientific Council - Center for Environmental Research, Education and Development (CERED), Dr. Le Anh Tuan - Research Institute for Climate Change, Can Tho University, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Ky Phung - Deputy Director of Sub-Institute of Hydrometeorology and Environment of South Vietnam (SIHYMETE), Assoc. Prof. Le Van Thang - Director of IREB and scientists from the colleges of Hue University, College of Natural Sciences - Hanoi National University, Dong Do University of Hanoi, Danang University, Sub-Institute of Hydrometeorology and Environment of South Vietnam (SIHYMETE), Saigon University, Ho Chi Minh city University of Agriculture - Forestry and related stakeholders in Thua Thien Hue province and leaders, beneficiaries of Huong Phong commune, Huong Tra district and Quang Thanh commune, Quang Dien district. At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Le Van Thang, Director of IREB, Project Manager summarized the project results after two-year implementation. The project has raised awareness and understanding of climate change impacts and adaptation for people in Huong Phong commune (Huong Tra district) and Quang Thanh commune (Quang Dien district). In particular, the project has successfully developed two livelihood models to adapt to climate change for these two communes: the model of extensive aquaculture along Tam Giang lagoon and prowing vegetable in "hanging garden" adapting to climate change. In addition, the Project 09-04 & 10-04 FLC has also built community-house adapting to floods and rising sea levels, implementation of model handling environmental issues after natural calamities bringing about specific economic and social benefits for the local people in Huong Phong and Quang Thanh communes. In addition, the project also organized many scientific activities, provided and shared experiences in coping with climate change for officials and experts in the field of environment in the province of Thua Thien Hue, mainstreaming climate change adaptation measures into socio-economic development programs. Dr. Dang Trung Thuan, Chairman of Vietnam of Association Geochemistry (VAG). - Report on "Climate change adaptation policies and the process of mainstreaming climate change into local development plans in the Mekong River Delta" by Dr. Le Anh Tuan, Research Institute for Climate Change, Can Tho University - Report "Sharing some climate change adaptation models in the climate change adaptation projects in the province of Thua Thien Hue" by Ms. Le Thi My Thuyen from the Consultative and Research Center on Natural Resource Management (CORENARM). - Report " Center for Social Research Development (CSRD) for community-based climate change adaptation models and integration of climate change adaptation policy in Thua Thien Hue province" by MSc.
