Tuesday September 14th Meeting:
Welcome back for another fantastic year with the Fort Worth Chapter of FEI. We have
a great schedule lined up and our speaker for the first meeting of the year is a CEO that
has a “four star” ranking. . . . literally. How many chief executives have had the
responsibility for directing and guiding a workforce of almost 700,000 people spread out
across every corner of the globe? Our speaker for the first FEI meeting on Tuesday,
September 14th, has faced and met that challenge; although, he would say it was one
of the greatest privileges and honors of his life. General T. Michael Moseley, USAF
(Ret.) is the former Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force and was a member of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff serving under President George W. Bush. A native Texan and
A&M grad, he was responsible for leading the largest and most powerful air and space
force on the planet, and did so in a time of great crisis and uncertainty. Who better to
speak with us on the topic of “Leadership in a Complex World”?
Our evening begins with a social hour starting at 5:30pm at the City Club. Please join
us for what will truly be an extraordinary evening.
Pre-Meeting CPE - As with previous years, we’ll have free CPE sessions before the start of
each regular chapter meeting at the City Club. Our chapter sponsors will again be making the
presentations which allow you to earn at least one extra hour of CPE each month in addition to
the CPE you receive from the dinner presentation.
To start off the new year, Felix Lozano from Whitley Penn, will be discussing fraud. Fraud is
booming as financial pressures rise during the recession. The past few years, we’ve seen
plenty of fraud, self-dealing, and general all-purpose unethical behavior. Crooked financiers
and rogue traders have tried everything from Ponzi schemes and old-fashioned embezzlement
to the creation of phantom companies to enrich themselves or make up for huge losses before
their clients or bosses noticed. Mr. Lozano, the Partner in Charge of the Dallas office of Whitley
Penn and the Director of the Firm’s Assurance & Advisory Services department, is a TCU grad,
a CPA and a Certified Fraud Examiner. In his presentation, he will discuss why people steal,
and how we now must rethink the way we do business in this age of fraud. Please join Felix at
4:30pm at City Club for what will surely be an interesting and thought provoking presentation.

Message from our Chapter President:
The good news is that when our FEI program year starts, cooler weather
is in the forecast!! So, welcome to the cool 2010-11 Fort Worth Chapter
Year and the great programs and activities your Board has planned. Not
only will we enjoy the interesting and professionally enlightening
programs and CPE sessions lined up by Charlie Campbell and Kelley
Buchhorn, but we will also have fun at the social events and tour planned
by Mike Herman. Every month from September through May will have
opportunities for you to share in the camaraderie of our group, making
new friends and building on familiar professional relationships.
The kick-off meeting this year will be on Tuesday September 14, 2010
(note that this is the 2nd Tuesday of the month), when former Air Force Chief of Staff General T.
Michael Moseley, USAF (Ret.) will give us his perspectives and experiences on leadership and
what it takes to effectively run a complex organization in today’s challenging environment.
General Moseley is a native Texan, so we'll be hearing from one of our own.
The Board has worked to build on the momentum generated by Jim Swaim and the Board last
year when our chapter won a distinguished Chapter award. Thanks to Mark Bronson's efforts,
the Chapter now has 14 sponsors. They bring potential new members to our meetings, provide
us with excellent CPE opportunities, and make it possible to have great meetings in the
wonderful surroundings of the City Club. Please let each sponsor know much we appreciate
their support. This year's sponsors are:
BDO USA
Capital One Bank
Deloitte
Ernst & Young
Hartman, Leito & Bolt
Haynes and Boone
Higginbotham & Associates
KPMG
PriceWaterhouseCoopers
Resources Global Professionals
TravisWolff
VIP Search Group
Wells Fargo
Whitley Penn
Since May, we are pleased to welcome 4 new members. We now stand at 109 members with a
goal to have an annual net increase of 10%. With the number of public, private, non-profit and
governmental entities in the Fort Worth area, we should be able to easily meet that goal.
Please help us out by referring any potentially eligible member to Jeremy Sweek, our
Membership Chair for the year.
I want to thank our Board for their hard work, dedication, and selfless efforts over the summer.
You will see their results throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you on the 14th.
Vikki Pier
