Create summaries/timelines of chapter events (RL 2)

Identify two themes in the novel; track development of both and how both interact with each other (RL 2)

Informational essay about how Salinger uses symbolism to develop his themes (W 2)

Attend to precision through precise word choice in informational essay (MP 6)

Read “The Yellow Wallpaper” to compare/contrast themes by using Double Bubble Map or

Venn Diagram (RL 2)

Take a Myer-Briggs personality test as introduction to research project to determine their personality; take another time as if they were Holden to determine his personality – determine his “identity”

Group research project: research different mental illnesses to determine/diagnose Holden – use quotes from novel as support as well as quotes from research –essay, technology presentation, class presentation (W 2; HS.TT.1.1; 1.3; SL6)

Honors Extension: Read Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar independently; depict struggles of mentally ill by creating a poster/collage/Glogster linking the two novels and “The Yellow Wallpaper” (RL 2;
