The number of items and the points for each item may be changed during the semester. The grading scale is based on the standard fixed percent system. No curve will be applied to any examination. Students who are within 1% of the next higher grade may receive the higher grade based upon their attendance and participation in class discussions. ITEM Quizzes (5 x20pts ea.) COURSE REPETITION POLICY: This course may be repeated only once to improve a grade lower than a "C" per LA Community College District policy. If a student earns a grade lower than "C" the second time they enroll in this course, they will not be able to enroll in this course a third time. Since Respiratory Therapy 21 is a requirement for completion of the Respiratory Therapy Program, a student who earns a grade lower than "C" in this course twice, will not be able to complete the program, earn a certificate of completion and meet the licensure requirements for respiratory care practice in California. 2. ATTENDANCE POLICY: A student who misses more than 2 class sessions without notifying the instructor may be excluded from this class. If the student stops attending class, it is the student's responsibility to officially drop the class. When a student stops attending class, and does not officially drop, college policy requires a grade of “F”. It is the student's responsibility to consult with the instructor regarding the impact of any absences on his or her status in this class. 3. INSTRUCTOR: The instructor may be reached by E-MAIL 4. CHEATING POLICY: Cheating constitutes academic dishonesty and fraud. Any student who is caught cheating will receive a zero for the exam in question. A student caught cheating a second time will receive a grade of "F" in the course. 5. EXAM MAKE-UP POLICY: NO make-up or rescheduled examinations are permitted unless they are APPROVED by the instructor BEFORE the date of the scheduled examination. Missed exams will be completed by the student during the final examination period. 6. The instructor may suspend a student from this class for "good cause" per Board of Trustees Rule 91101.18a. "Good cause" includes but is not limited to the violation of the standards of student conduct ( See College General Catalog.) 7. To earn a grade of "C" or better in this class the student must achieve an overall average of 75% or higher on the unit examinations and the final examination. Extra credit points and dropped quizzes will NOT be applied to raise a student's grade from below "C". Extra credit points and dropped quizzes may be applied to raise a student's grade from a "C" or higher. 8. The reading assignments are to be completed BEFORE the date they are listed! Completion of the reading will make the lectures easier for you to follow and comprehend. The instructor may use unscheduled quizzes to reward students who have prepared for class by completing the reading. 9. An up-to-date grading spreadsheet is posted by the instructor to inform the students of their current grade in this class. The information on the spreadsheet is subject to audit by the instructor. The student should report any error to the instructor immediately. East Los Angeles College/Santa Monica College RT Program 10.
