Currently, he is owner of the Wilkes Company – a government relations, public affairs and political consulting firm – and is Vice President of Public Affairs for Cox Communications. Morris has served the Rotary Club of Lubbock and the community at large in numerous leadership positions. Recently, he was named an Outstanding Alumnus of the Texas Tech University’s College of Mass Communications. In his talk, Morris reviewed the numerous service activities of the Rotary Club of Lubbock over the past 85 years since its founding on February 21, 1921, emphasizing high ethical standards, understanding, peace and goodwill. He asked all District Governors, Club Presidents, and members of the Board of Directors, both past and present, to stand and be recognized. Over the years, the Rotary Club of Lubbock – the longest serving service club in the community – has initiated a large number of beneficial community programs, including the loan fund for Texas Tech students, the children’s health clinic, the South Plains Food Bank and its associated Breedlove Dehydration Plant and Rotary Apple Orchard, and the Rotary cerebral palsy treatment center. Well over one million dollars has gone into these programs. Currently, the Club is developing a meditation center associated with the recently constructed Veterans Memorial in Lubbock. President Jim Carpenter thanked Morris for his presentation and announced that, as a token of our appreciation, his name will be added to the Wall of Honor at the South Plains Food Bank Rotary Apple Orchard. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. by David Hentges March Birthdays Bill Grisham ..............01 Bruce Thornton ........01 Floyd Crume.............06 Sherry Hensley.........06 George Gilkerson .....17 Randy Wright ...........17 Marjan Wilkins ..........20 Oliver Thomas ..........24 Harold Harriger.........25 The Rotary Club of Lubbock 1603 W.
