Sunday, 19 April 2015 When we reflect on WWI what are we remembering? The facts, or just one small part of the Anzac story, a story that has become steeped in Anzac legend? Ask yourself this question when Anzac Day comes about Lest we forget what? For 27-year-old presenter Kate Aubusson, it's all about Gallipoli, the Anzac spirit. Boys from the bush, sacrifice, mateship and being born as a nation the day the Diggers landed at Anzac Cove. This is important to her. She had relatives who fought in WWI. When she was a kid she would stand for the minute’s silence and say 'Lest We Forget', but in that silence she never knew exactly what she was supposed to remember… Now she is going on a quest that follows the path of the Anzacs. What she wants to find out is… When we say, 'lest we forget' - Lest we forget what? From Australia to Gallipoli and across the Western Front, Kate travels to Istanbul enroute to Anzac Cove on Anzac day. She speaks with serving soldiers at Duntroon, and navigates the battlefields of the Western Front. She meets descendants of soldiers, travels with eminent historians, and learns from those who are training the next generation of Australian soldiers. It is a journey that will change what we all think about the Anzac legend and ourselves. The ABC's full Australia Remembers Gallipoli coverage is available at: abc.net.au/anzac/programming. Page | 1 ABC2 Program Guide: National: Week 17 Program Highlights Sunday 9:40pm Our World War Sunday, 19 April 2015 New Series Running over three big nights Our World War is a dynamic, gripping, authentic three-part factual drama series that recounts the extraordinary bravery of young soldiers fighting 100 years ago. Capturing the visceral reality of combat, Our World War hurtles straight to the frontline, using immersive camerawork and intimate documentary filming styles to bring the First World War to life in a bold and fresh way. With eye-witness immediacy, this is history as seen through the soldiers' eyes. Drawing on the first-hand testimonies, interviews, letters and audio recordings of the soldiers themselves, the series of three original dramas reveals their often hidden and disturbing front-line experiences throughout the duration of the war. Based on the personal accounts of the 4th Battalion, The Royal Fusiliers, The First Day tells the story of a single company of riflemen and machine gunners as they fought the opening battle of the war against an overwhelming German army. For their courage at the Battle of Mons in August 1914 they were awarded the first Victoria Crosses of World War One. In Pals, a young office-worker volunteers to fight alongside his work-mates and friends in a Pals regiment, in the summer of 1916. To his surprise he finds himself fighting two enemies - the Germans and a system that requires him to kill a friend accused of desertion. The third and final film, War Machine, explores the mechanisation necessary to end the war alongside the overwhelming desire of the soldiers to return home. Set in the Battle of Amiens, August 1918, and based on the personal account of a member of the Tank Regiment, it follows the tank commander and crew as they fight against the odds, pounding their way across enemy territory. http://abc.net.au/iview/ PRODUCTION DETAILS: Directors: Bruce Goodison and Ben Chanan Producer: Sue Horth Executive Producer: Colin Barr OUR WORLD WAR is a BBC production Page | 2 ABC2 Program Guide: National: Week 17 Program Highlights Tuesday 8:40pm Good Game Special Tuesday, 21 April 2015 War has been the setting for many of the most enduring, popular and profitable video games of all time. In this very special edition of Good Game, we'll be exploring what makes war such a compelling theme for video games. Titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Homefront, Medal of Honour, Total War and Company of Heroes, amongst many others, have allowed gamers to experience war in a myriad of unique and interactive ways that make war games a profoundly compelling experience. Whether it's realistically recreating the strategy of Napoleon in Total War: Napoleon, or storming the beach at Normandy towards the end of World War II in Call of Duty 2, helping civilians survive the siege of Sarajevo in This War of Mine or exploring the psychological impact of conflict in Spec Ops the Line, war games have seen millions of gamers become virtual participants in war. Bajo and Hex will talk to some of the key developers working across titles that use war as their theme but deliver very different experiences. We will meet some current and ex-service personnel to find out how war games are viewed and used by the professionals for education as well as entertainment. Plus we'll look at how the modern armed services use games to train, recruit and educate their personnel and we'll explore the rich time line of war video games, from Red Barron on the Atari released in 1980 to 2014's brilliant Valiant Hearts: The Great War. http://abc.net.au/iview/ PRODUCTION DETAILS: An ABC TV Production Page | 3 ABC2 Program Guide: National: Week 17 Program Highlights Wednesday 9:40pm Tattoo Tales Wednesday, 22 April 2015 Fixed rig cameras capture the day-to-day antics and artistry inside a busy tattoo studio on Sydney's Bondi Beach. This series reveals unique, entertaining and often poignant insights into why so many Australians get inked. It's a hot day in Bondi, which makes for a busy studio and Josh is struggling to maintain his exceptionally high standards. Owners John and Wendy are interviewing a potential new tattoo artist and putting him through the ringer. Three Navy brothers are on a sentimental mission to commemorate their dead father - a decorated naval officer. It seems all fun and games on the surface as the boys joke around with artist Shaun, until one brother reveals a deeper heartache. 46-year-old single mother Marcia has come to the studio for a badge of honour - a tattoo to symbolise courage and strength. After a recent battle with breast cancer, she is hoping her tattoo can bring back her sensuality. She and artist Carl bond as he reveals his own cancer heartbreak. Mothers Karen and Leanne come in with their kids to get their first-ever tattoos. They're celebrating their football team's Grand Final victory - yet they can't quite figure out just how they ended up in a tattoo studio. In the window chair, local hairdresser Remington is adding to his extensive collection of ink. His 'guns' impress the ladies and they all get involved in ribbing artist Moses about his almost complete lack of ink. His clients wonder whether a tiny pinprick of ink qualifies as a tattoo. http://abc.net.au/iview/ PRODUCTION DETAILS: TATTOO TALES was developed and produced in association with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
