Discuss with students the changes throughout history with the changes in visual
media. – Follow from it being used for religious iconic images in the early 15th
century or Islamic art to WWII as propaganda by government, and the style that
was used, through to 20th century computer graphic representations from fantasy to
fiction manipulation in the fashion industry. Show students examples.
Students are given an example of Contemporary digital media and one from an era
<1960 they are given a set of questions exploring the development and processes of
the two art works. They compare and express ideas and opinions based on the
criteria.


Design brief - Students are to choose a painting/artwork/media from <1960 and
combine it with the Lava Flow technique (Tutorial on Photoshop 7.0 written by A
Howard). Combined with a drawn image designed by the student and scanned into
the computer or drawn with a graphic program. The design is to represent an
everyday object. It is to be in Poster format. Research and ideas are to be recorded
and notation of ideas. The work is to be presented on black card.
6 thumbnail sketches should be drawn in sketchbook. Draw over with black fine
liner.
Complete Lava flow Tutorial
Working through design brief recording steps and changes along the way in
sketchbook.
Photoshop techniques – Clone, filters, tools.
Art appreciation – CD covers

Students are to bring in their favourite CD cover from home. They complete a
Worksheet comparing and discussing the differences. 1 period.

Introduction to CD Design Assignment

Design brief – to design a CD cover that will be sold to Muslim people whom are
interested in Islamic songs. It must include all necessary representations that all CD
covers include. It must have a front and back page 12cm x 12cm to fit a CD case
for display.

Students research images and ideas that can be used on the cover. Print out and
record in sketchbook.

Students follow ZOOM EFFECT tutorial for Photoshop 7.0 to use as background
on CD.

Students use images and text researched to present a CD cover for Islamic Songs.
