Introducing a Famous Person
Speech Guidelines
A speech of introduction is considered a special occasion. We will pretend the
person is making a guest appearance in our classroom and it is your job to
introduce him/her. Find at least two sources (magazine, newspaper or internet
article) about this person and borrow information from these resources for your
speech.
Time:
2-3 minutes
Checklist:
Before your speech give me your typed speech outline with
the following highlighted:

I. INTRODUCTION
MEMORIZE THIS!
A. Attention getter– Use one of the following or make up your own.
 List other famous personalities in the same field and then get to
your person.
 “ Many of you recognize ____________ from _________ but do
you really know him/her.”
 Use an anecdote about an event or moment in this person’ s
life.
 Quote something clever, funny or strange this person has said.
 For sports figures share athletic feats or statistics or movie stars
box office revenues $.
B. Background/bridge/slope/benefit to thesis
C. Thesis (What is it you want to say about this person? Research and then come
up with three conclusive qualities or characteristics about this person that you will
then prove in the body of your speech.)
II. Body
