1. SITUATION. Alpha Co, NCSU NROTC, in conjunction with the
Raleigh Officer Selection Office, will complete their semester
training with an endurance competition and field exercise
designed to test, evaluate, and enhance the physical fitness and
basic military skills required for Officer Candidates School.
2. MISSION. On 21-22 April 2007 Alpha Company NCSU NROTC and
the officer candidates of the Raleigh OSO will conduct training
on NCSU’s main campus and at the Schenck Forest Training Area
(SFTA), IOT better prepare all students academically,
physically, and mentally for OCS.
3. EXECUTION
A. Commander’s Intent. The purpose of this training
evolution is threefold. First, is to prepare all participants
for the rigors of Officer Candidates School. Secondly, to
increase the motivation, camaraderie, and esprit de corps for
all prospective Marine officers from the Raleigh OSO and NCSU
NROTC BN regardless of commissioning source. Finally, this
event also serves as the culminating event in the Alpha Company
Subj: SPRING 2007 OCS-PREPARATION FINEX
training plan for the current academic year. We will accomplish
this by safely and efficiently conducting physical, practical
application and classroom training that is both challenging and
motivating for all participants.
B. Concept of Operations. This training evolution will be
broken into four distinct stages:
(1) Stage I: Endurance Challenge. Students will be broken
into 6-man teams and compete in a series of five events. Upon
completion of all events, competitors will undergo a transition
period prior to the commencement of Stage II.
a. Event 1: Enhanced Marine Corps PFT. Consists of a
timed 3 mile run, MAX pull-ups, and 2-minute MAX crunches.
Techniques for pull-ups and crunches will be IAW ref. (a). Half
of participants will execute pull-ups while the other half
executes crunches. Following the pull-ups and crunches,
participants will complete a 3-mile run on the NCSU campus.
Height and weight will be recorded following the run. Upon an
entire team’s completion of ht/wt recording, it will move to
Carmichael Gym and be directed to either the locker room to
change over for Event 2 or to the weight rooms for Event 3.
b. Event 2: 300m Individual Swim. Conducted in
Carmichael Gymnasium pool, teams will enter the swimming lane
designated by event coordinator. EACH TEAM MEMBER will swim
300m. Upon completion of the event, competitors will change
into boots, utility trousers, and unit PT shirt, (w/ sweat top
if necessary) then move to Carmichael Weight Room # 1201 or 1202
for Event 3 if not already completed. If Event 3 has been
completed, team will move to the Upper Intramural (IM) fields
for Events 4 & 5.
c. Event 3: Bench Press. Each team member will flat
bench press 80% of their body weight, executing as many
repetitions as possible. Upon completion, teams will change
into swim gear in the locker room for Event 2, or if already
completed, will move to the Upper IM Fields for Events 4 & 5.
d. Event 4: Ruck Run. This event will run “on the
clock” with Event 5. Rucks and 782-gear will be pre-staged at
start point on the Upper IM Fields. All rucks will weigh 35
pounds and all canteens will be full. Teams will complete the
route marked by event coordinators to ensure a standard route
for each team. At no time will dispersion between first and
last team members exceed 25 meters. Upon completion of Event 4,
2
Subj: SPRING 2007 OCS-PREPARATION FINEX
the team will drop packs and 782 gear and immediately move to
Event 5. EACH TEAM MUST COMPLETE BOTH EVENTS 4 AND 5 BEFORE
RECORDING ITS TIME.
e. Event 5: Log Carry. This event will run “on the
clock” with Event 4, and will begin and end at the same
location. Each team will carry one log along the designated
route marked by event coordinators. Upon completion of Event 5,
the team will stage its log and record its time. EACH TEAM MUST
COMPLETE BOTH EVENTS 4 AND 5 BEFORE RECORDING ITS TIME.
f. Upon completion of all events, each team will
transition into a recovery period (shower & change-over) prior
to commencement of Stage II.
(2) Stage II: Station Training Area (Vicinity of NC
State): Students will be divided into 4 groups by
experience/knowledge level. Instructors for Stage II will be
OCS-complete NCSU MIDN and Marines, with the exception of

period of instruction to familiarize all OCS-bound participants
with the administrative, logistical, and physical fitness
requirements & expectations upon checking into OCS.
b. Station 2: Close-Order Drill. Class content will
be based on group skill level and designed to increase
individual proficiency at Close-Order Drill. The intent is for
each student to execute a drill card prior to station
completion.
c. Station 3: Squad/Fire Team Formations. Class
content will be based on group skill level and designed to
increase individual knowledge of and ability to function within
an infantry fire team or squad.

according to scoring rubric. Team’s total score will be the
average score of its 6 members. Each event will be scored as
follows:
a. First 20 pull-ups are worth 5 pts each.
additional is worth 10 pts each.
Each
b. First 100 crunches count for 1 pt each.
additional is worth 2 pts each.
Each
c. 3-mile run is individual effort. For every 10
seconds under 18 minutes in run, an extra 1 pt will be added to
the individual’s score. (i.e., a time of 17:50 = 101 pts, 17:40
= 102 pts, etc). This portion will be executed on the Lower IM
fields.
(2) Events 2-5: Each event will be scored separately,
according to the scoring rubric and attached score sheet. Raw
scores, start times, and end times will be recorded by an event
