Mrs. Hollingsworth AP Literature Quotes Project First Semester Choose one of the texts we have read so far in this class and complete the following tasks in relation to that work. 1. From your notes, choose six quotes from the work which you feel establish one of the multitudes of themes running throughout the novel. All six quotes must come directly from the text and must support that one theme you choose for the work. 2. Choose five of those quotes and create a log for them. Write out each quote then respond to the following prompt for each quote. In a well-written paragraph explain how the quote establishes the theme of the work (characterization, tone, rhetorical devices, plot, why does this quote jump out at you, how does it tell you what is at the heart of this tale?) 3. Take the final quote and explain how this quote defines the novel (you will have separated out your quotes before the writing process begins). This quote should be the quote that captures the essence of the theme of the work. Without this quote the work would fall apart, would be a different story altogether. Do not summarize the plot. Tell me how the world in which the characters exist hinge upon these words. Just for your edification and remembering, here are the works we have explored thus far: Siddhartha Invisible Man Passage to India The Bell Jar Slaughterhouse Five Hamlet Heart of Darkness Wuthering Heights Paradise Lost Madame Bovary MacBeth
