Letter from School Board Trustee How quickly the school year flies. It seems like just yesterday we were breaking for the March break and here we are approaching the last month of the school year. I would like to begin by thanking all the students, parents and staff for their generosity. Our communities generously support school events on a regular basis but in addition, your kindness was overwhelming in response to the tsunami relief initiatives over the past number of months. You also continue to support the Stephen Lewis Foundation in its mandate to assist African countries dealing with the HIV/AIDS pandemic. As many of you are no doubt aware, Stephen Lewis is the United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa. The mandate of the Stephen Lewis Foundation is simple - to provide the necessary resources and hope to those in dire need. The task is monumental. As our mission statement says, "we unite in our purpose to inspire and prepare learners for life in our changing world community." As members of a global community, we recognize the impact of AIDS on African children. We believe that we - our students, staff and communities - have the ability to ease anguish and cultivate hope. All of the funds raised in York Region schools will be directed to the Cotlands Orphanage, near Johannesburg. To find out more about Cotlands or about the Stephen Lewis Foundation, you may also wish to visit the following websites at: www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca <http://www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca/> , www.stephenlewisfoundation.org <http://www.stephenlewisfoundation.org/> , www.york4stephenlewis.ca <http://www.york4stephenlewis.ca/> , www.cotlands.org <http://www.cotlands.org/> . The Board of Trustees has been quite busy as well. I am please to sit on the following Board Committees: SEAC (Special Education Advisory Committee), Property, SALEP (Student Alternative Education Programs), Expulsions and many other wonderful initiatives throughout the board - Character Education initiatives, etc. I would like to thank you once again for your involvement in your child(ren)'s school. Have a safe and happy summer! Sincerely, Trustee (Marg) Aldridge How to Contact Us I visited several schools as part of Earth Day Ross Doan, Richmond Rose, Walter Scott as part of literacy month, a production of Man of La Mancha at Roselawn, the 50th anniversary celebration at O.M.
