Persuasive Speech PowerPoint Presentations
Brief lesson description
The students will be developing a persuasive speech. Students will be persuading their
audience to feel strongly for or against a topic of their choice. They will be using the
internet, and other resources to research and developing an outline of their topic.
Students will then use PowerPoint to present their information. Within their PowerPoint
presentations they will be required to have multimedia that consists of animations,
sounds, voice, pictures and video clips. Each student will present their PowerPoint
Persuasive Speech presentation to the class.
District content standard/benchmark addressed
1. Students are able to use logistical patterns of organization to inform, persuade, or
unite audiences.
(a) Outlining the main ideas of the body of the Speech.
(b) Find expert opinion fact and statistics to support arguments.
(c) Recognize the emotional and cultural significance of specific facial
expressions and body postures.
2. Students are able to use appropriate language and presentation style for formal
and informal situations.
(a) Choose level of language and degree of formality for communication.
(b) Use appropriate grammar, sentence structure and syntax in various speaking
situations.
NETS-S technology standard addressed
1. Incorporate knowledge from a subject and real time data into a technology
project.
2. Compare and contrast external sources needed for additional knowledge to
complete a technology project
3. Compare and contrast other problem-solving and decision-making methods and
choose a method to solve a given problem.
Technology resources needed (hardware and software)
Computer with internet access, microphones, speakers, headphones, PowerPoint
software, multimedia software.
Procedure
Introduction: The students researched and outlined a Persuasive Speech.
Activity: The students used the Internet and other outside resources to research and
develop a Persuasive Speech outline. They will then present their Persuasive Speeches
by means of PowerPoint utilizing text, voice, pictures, and movie animation.
Technology Integration: The students will design a PowerPoint template to present their
Persuasive Speeches. The students will develop an outline of their Persuasive Speeches
and put information researched into a PowerPoint demonstration. They will research the
Internet using different search engines as well as use additional resources to develop and
define their topic of persuasion. Students will be required to incorporate video clips and
voice recording into their PowerPoint.
Assessment method
Students will be assessed based on rubric using a 1 point, 2 point, and 3 point scale.
Criteria will include (1) introduction and getting the attention of the audience, (2) body of
the speech, (3) conclusion (4) voice and physical presence, (5) eye contact and time
element, (6) main points presented in logical order (7) sources identified and cited (8)
multi-media technology including animations, sound, voice, pictures, and video clips (9)
PowerPoint presentation length requirement, (10) complete outline..
