Hi All!
There is absolutely no doubt that this was the best month all round this year. Personally my tally of 52
which was 10 up on August last year was only 6 less than my best August which was 2000.
As if the immaculate Beech 18 N663TB wasn’t enough of a treat, the replica Sikorsky S-38 N28V had to
take the award for the most unusual visitor. Flying from Minnesota to Frankfurt this unusual flying boat
that looked as though it was missing half of its fuselage stayed with us for two nights near the end of the
month. Tom Schrade, who owned the aircraft, and all of his crew were more than happy to answer as
many questions that we could through at them! Although a replica, the upper wing of this biplane which
spanned 71 feet was original, as was the boom and tail assembly. This aircraft was built in 2001, but the
originals date back to 1928 and of which 101 were built with 39 going to Pan Am.
All of this mustn’t overshadow the visit of Spitfire G-OXVI which spent a weekend with us while
performing displays at Fort George.
It is a long time since we had 3 new Easyjets, and Dash Eight G-ECOF was the last current aircraft from
the Flybe fleet that was needed here!
Edited from the daily reports:
1st: Desperately quiet this morning, but things speeded up this afternoon, and it was then that we had a
first visit from Malibu N113BP.
2nd: A busy day, mostly a mass exodus, but of the 4 visitors, 3 were 1 st time at Inverness. 1st in was a
Gulfstream 550 G-GSSO. The other two were French Jodel F-BNJX and Balkan Charter LZ-BHD.
4th: August is getting off to a good start with no fewer than five 1 st visits amongst the arrivals. Beech
400XP G-EDCS was 1st in making 2 visits today. Jet Ranger G-CYRS, which has by-passed us
previously was the second that was new to us today. The other three new ones that all arrived this
evening from the U.S.A. were N77D Gulf IVSP, N717DX & N930DC both Gulfstream 450s.
5th: A nice warm and sunny day that brought a new addition for us when Ce 206 N1155P arrived from
Barrow.
6th: Still keeping busy up here and today we had two more aircraft that were new to us. Easyjet sent us
their latest Airbus, G-EZFX on the Gatwick flight, while TAG Aviation offered CL.605 G-CGJA.
7th: OO-VLY Fokker 50 was on a first visit bringing Royal Antwerp FC to play Caledonian Thistle.
Diamond DA-40 D-ESKT, also on a first visit has C/N 40.351.
8th: Two splendid CJ-6A today, G-BVVG and G-CGFS, and a new arrival for us was Bonanza OO-JKM.
9th: Heavy rain this morning gave way to a nice warm day which brought us the 1st visit of Citation Bravo
YU-BTB. There were also 2nd visits from CJ3 D-CNOB and A320 LZ-BHD.
11th: A day of heavy rain showers, but the apron is re-filling with aircraft! We now have two Bonanzas with
N2299L joining OO-JKM and two DA-40s with G-OCCN joining D-ESKT. The 1st of two new ones for us
was TBM-850 N850WM, stopping for only a brief while. The second was Falcon 900C N900LC which has
night-stopped.
12th: Another new visitor today when N541S Cessna 650-III arrived from Reykjavik for a night-stop.

13th: A day of “Lasts” today! The based Flybe Dash 8 had changed to G-ECOF when it arrived as “BEE
833” at 1743. A first visit for us and is the last of the fleet to make a visit. CS-DRW is the last 125-800XP
of the Netjets fleet that we needed, and it called in briefly tonight before heading to Dundee. Highlight of
the day was Spitfire TD248/G-OXVI which arrived early this evening and will stop until Sunday.
14th: A very grey day turned into a beautiful warm and sunny one, allowing Spitfire TD248 perfect
conditions for its display at Fort George around 1500. We had 2, possibly 3 1 st visits today. Cessna U206
G-DROP was, I believe, here for the 1st time. It acted as mount for the Golden Lions parachute drop at
Fort George following the Spitfire display. PC-12 M-IFLY was here for only the second time, but all black
Hawker 900XP EI-JJJ is here for the first time and is night-stopping. Yet another DA-40D, D-ESBL arrived
this evening from Kirkwall making what I hope to be the third 1 st visit. Great days!
15th: This weekend has been kind to us what with glorious weather, and if a Spitfire wasn’t enough to
entertain, at lunchtime Beech 18 N663TB arrived, which has night-stopped. I often describe an aircraft as
“immaculate”, but this is truly pristine, especially considering the year given as 1964 by the FAA. A busy
day including a flurry of Netjets and a first visit by Ce 182T G-LUEK, which all made for a truly glorious
Sunday.
16th: We finally had a first visit of a VLJ tonight in the tiny shape of Eclipse EA500 N117EA. CRJ-200E
PH-AAG was another 1st for us, as was ZK460, Beech B200GT. The latter was previously on the civil
register as G-RAFU and as such visited us at the end of March this year.
17th: Extensions at both ends today for people and aircraft, both poorly. However, the good news was that
a Beech B200GT G-SYGB was a first visitor today.
19th: Another glorious day that turned up 4 new ones for us! Cheyenne D-IAAE was here on an
ambulance flight and was our 1st new visitor today. Our next two new ones were both unexpected, but
very welcome with Malibu N49HF and Gazelle HA-LFB, which in spite of the Hungarian registration is
based in Cumbria. Finally, just before the close our 4 th was CJ2+ HB-VPB.
20th: One first visit for us today was Cessna 140 HB-CAJ.
21st: Early on today our 1st new visitor was Ce 172S G-UFCI from the Ulster Flying Club. Unusually for the
time of year it was very windy, but it didn’t deter our second 1st visit when Jet Ranger OO-GEA made two
visits later in the day. Gulfstream 4SP N492QS was here only on its second visit, having been here
previously on 21.05.2004.
22nd: A busy day in the sun up here with no fewer than five from Netjets. Amongst them were two new
Germans with DR.400 D-ECIA and TBM 700A D-FGYY.
23rd: Lucky for us – two new ones with Beech 300 PH-ACE and Citation Bravo G-OMEA. Tailwheel Ce
150D G-AWAX was new for me, but my records don’t go back enough to see if it has called before.
Citation N555BK was here for only the second time since September 2006.
24th: The rain finally stopped after lunchtime following a terrible night. Much quieter today, but very
recently delivered Easyjet A319 G-EZFY made up for the gloom on a first visit from Gatwick.
26th: A nice busy day, mostly Netjets, however nice to have AW.139 M-ERIT making its 2nd (& 3rd) return
visit. The third new Easyjet for us this month, and the second this week with G-EZFZ from Gatwick the
day after it was delivered! To round the day off, a first visit from GLEX XRS N797KK.
27th: Very early this morning Gulf 3 N96757 was a nice 1st visit for us. It has had a nice repaint since last
here as N900LA in 2006.
28th: Absolutely no doubt about the most interesting visitor here for as long as I can remember. The only
flying S-38B in the world graced the South Apron on its trip from Minnesota to Frankfurt. D-CLEE Citation
560XLS was here to collect one of the S-38 crew. PA24 G-TALF was a first visit as such, but has been
here as G-APUZ. The extraordinary flow of Netjets continued with CS-DMA being the only one in a light
fawn Zorro scheme.
29th: Today was busy, but an anti-climax after yesterday with nothing new.
30th: Nearly all Netjets today, but we did get a new visit from E145 SE-DZB.
31st: Gulfstream N490QS and Falcon N230QS were both here for only the second time, but PA28
G-CGOS was a first visit. Another 1st timer was PA32 G-HDEW which just made an approach.

A truly magnificent month compared to last year! Comanche G-TALF was a previous 1st visit as G-APUZ.
The German TBM D-FGYY was here as a support aircraft for the Sikorsky S-38B. The highlight in this
category has to be Spitfire G-OXVI which flew displays at Fort George as TD248/CRS for their reenactment weekend.

An equal total to last year, but two quality visitors this time around! We thought we were lucky to
get the immaculate Beech 18 N663TB, but the star of course was the only flying Sikorsky S-38
“Flying Yacht” as the owner describes it. The weather kept it here for an extra day giving more a

What a shame there weren’t 7 more to make a round hundred! No-one is complaining though. I think it is
safe to say that Netjets are no longer feeling the pinch as 37 different aircraft from them made 42 visits!
Of special note was Eclipse N117EA which was the first of type to visit Inverness. Gulfstream III N96757
had made 2 previous visits as N900LA in 2006. Citation XLS D-CLEE called to collect a VIP Passenger
from the S-38, no less than the Chairman of Airbus! Shame they didn’t send an A380 for him ;-) Hawker
900XP EI-JJJ was very noticeable for its overall black gloss finish, and the Yugoslav Citation was most
welcome. It was interesting to note how many of the longer-range flights came from and returned to
various airports in the Chicago area.

(Royal Mail flights) BDI “BIRDIE”
Benair operate flights for Royal Mail using a based LET 410 to and from Kirkwall, utilising either OY-PBH
or OY-PBI. Occasionally these flights are operated by Metro OY-BJP. They also operate an evening flight
Kinloss>Inverness>Edinburgh using one of the following Short 360s OY-MUG or OY-PBV from MondayFriday. There is usually a Shorts 360 based at Inverness as a spare.
