Catalog description.
The National Council Licensure examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is administered to graduates of nursing schools. The NCLEX-RN tests the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for entry-level safe and effective nursing practice. Nursing care of individuals, families, and populations across the life span will be emphasized. This elective nursing course focuses on strengthening critical thinking skills and confidence with content necessary for NCLEX success.
Students will be able to focus and customize their study based on identified areas of strength and weakness. Content review books and weekly critical thinking exercises will support student learning. Learning exercises will provide immediate feedback so that students can refocus their study plan.

Overview of Content
All content categories reflect client needs across the life span in a variety of settings. The nurse is expected to apply the fundamental principles of clinical decision making and critical thinking to nursing practice. The NCLEX test plan makes the assumption that the nurse integrates concepts from the following bodies’ of knowledge: a.

Biological sciences (anatomy, physiology, biology, microbiology) c.
Physical sciences (chemistry and physics)

B. Rationale
1. Statement of the major focus and objectives of the course.
This nursing elective is intended to strengthening critical thinking skills and confidence in content necessary for NCLEX success. It provides an opportunity for nursing students to review essential content and skills, as well as assist the student to identify areas of strength and weakness to focus and customize study for NCLEX-RN testing. This course reinforces content taught within the nursing curriculum. It provides a forum for concentrated review and critical thinking exercises as students prepare for licensure examination following graduation. This course especially benefits the student who lacks confidence in passing NCLEX-RN.
Learning Outcomes:

This course adds to the current pool of upper division nursing electives. Nursing majors are required to have 5 semester hours of upper-division electives (300- and 400-level courses).
