little complicated signing on as a member.

application that is due this Wed is basically to get us on OrgSync again. Once that is approved we have
to have to 10 panther IDs by the 10th of Sept

to have a national board and a CSO board for FIU affiliation purposes

[9:34:35 PM] Anthony Reid: FBAA FIU is similar to a committee under the FBAALC
[9:34:53 PM] Cinthia: So my CSO treasurer will not deal with the FBAA work?

differentiation

[9:36:38 PM] Jerica DB: basically the organizations have two categories, blue and gold

[9:37:04 PM] Jerica DB: if we're gold we follow the point system to qualify for funding from CSO
[9:37:21 PM] Jerica DB: blue means we're affiliated with FIU, we get to use the facilities but get no
funding

[9:48:38 PM] Cinthia: A lot of kids in campus want to do alternative break.

[9:49:08 PM] Jerica DB: well with that being said, side note, how does that affect our chances to be
considered non-profit

[9:49:27 PM] Jerica DB: for the application that you're filling out Mr. Reid
[9:49:35 PM] Claudia: I don't see why we qualify for academic?
[9:49:58 PM] Anthony Reid: It was last year. I think we're perhaps more academic than social. Perhaps
we should chose academic in case the IRS checks.
[9:50:18 PM] Seyla Cortes: what date will yeah i agree once again with claudia social
[9:51:08 PM] Anthony Reid: Does it really make a big difference? If not, academic would be to our
advantage in the eyes of the IRS.
[9:51:08 PM] Carole Fonseca: the mentoring program does help with the academic cause...but i do think
its more like a social org.
[9:51:13 PM] Jeremie: BTW this has to be decided before the 27th (after we register)
[9:51:14 PM] Seyla Cortes: i guess academics plays a role in the social activities we have.right?
[9:51:17 PM] Carole Fonseca: can you compare to other orgs in the social category?
[9:51:46 PM] Jeremie: good question but i wish i could answer that

[9:52:18 PM] Jerica DB: the student programming council at FIU is a social organization
[9:52:46 PM] Jerica DB: they put together events such as comedy shoes, talent shows, movie nights on
campus, concerts, etc
[9:52:56 PM] Jerica DB: nothing academic, purely social
[9:53:08 PM] Seyla Cortes: hmmm we are academic.
[9:53:08 PM] Jeremie: ok
[9:53:15 PM] Jerica DB: its academic in the sense that the members learn how to program these events,
but thats about it
[9:53:35 PM] Claudia: I think we are social. A lot of social organizations do volunteer work or community
service like we do with mentoring, etc. but they are still social
[9:53:38 PM] Cinthia: Jerica, I just made an org sync account.
[9:53:53 PM] Jerica DB: I would say we are both, and for IRS purposes it may be better to sign up with
the academic
[9:53:58 PM] Cinthia: But I don't think they charge fees to join.
[9:54:02 PM] Claudia: when I think academic I think of math club or an honor society, etc.
[9:54:10 PM] Jeremie: i just realized i can't make her an admin until we are registered

[9:55:41 PM] Jerica DB: the types of clubs that are specific to a subject

[9:56:45 PM] Seyla Cortes: i see, well we should sign up for the social clubs day fair because we aren't
specific to one subject.
[9:57:12 PM] Anthony Reid: Based on what we've done up to now we appear to be social; and perhaps
we are. However, if it doesn't make any difference to FIU which we choose it may be to our advantage
down the line to go on record as an academic organization. The IRS would not give us tax exemption if
we are not a purely educational organization.
[9:57:15 PM] Cinthia: But if we are going to have issues with the IRS we should play itsafe.
[9:57:51 PM] Carole Fonseca: Then let's just go the academic route.
