Course content and objectives: This course introduces an array of statistical procedures, and tools for choosing which
procedures apply to various decision making situations. Topics include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and report
generation. The key objectives include: 1) developing an appreciation of the importance of statistics in public inquiry, and 2)
gaining increased sophistication as a statistical consumer who understands the strengths and limitations of statistical analysis.
Final Exam: Your grades will be based upon your performance on the final examination. Virtually no statistician works from
memory—we use books as references for formulas. You may also use your books and notes during the exams. Your notes
should not substitute for studying. Make-up examinations will only be given to those students who provide a valid excuse. All
excuses must be supported by some form of documentation.
