Consent). All students majoring in Accounting must earn at least a “C” in this course.
Special Accommodations: Qualified students needing testing or classroom accommodations based on a
disability are encouraged to make their requests to me at the beginning of the quarter either during
office hours or by appointment. Note: Prior to receiving disability accommodations, verification of
eligibility from the Testing and Disability Services Office is needed. Disability information is
confidential. Information for Testing and Disability Services may be obtained in Wyly Tower 318 or
www.latech.edu/ods.
University Accommodations: Please inform the Instructor AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you are
scheduled to participate in any University-Sponsored activities which may conflict with class attendance.
Volunteering (etc.) for an activity scheduled at the same time as an exam is not an acceptable excuse
(especially when other times are available).

provisions of federal and civil rights laws, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national
origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status or disability. The Title IX Coordinator is

and update their contact information in the Emergency Notification System. It takes just a few seconds
to ensure you’re able to receive important text and voice alerts in the event of a campus emergency. For
more information on the Emergency Notification System, please visit
http://www.latech.edu/administration/ens.shtml.
Student Learning Outcomes/Course Objectives/Course Topics: Develop a functional knowledge of
international issues and practices with respect to:

2.
3.
4.
Financial Reporting Diversity
Foreign Currency Transactions and Hedging
Translation of Foreign Currency Financial Statements
Strategic, Regulatory, Governance and Sustainability Considerations
NOTE: Detail course objectives by chapter are provided in a separate document in Moodle.
Academic Honor Code: In accordance with the Academic Honor Code, students pledge the following:
Being a student of higher standards, I pledge to embody the principles of academic integrity. The
Louisiana Tech Honor Code can be found at the following website:
http://www.latech.edu/documents/honor-code.pdf.
Attendance Requirements: Regular attendance is required in this course. The class attendance policy as
stated in the 2014-2015 Louisiana Tech University Bulletin will be followed.
Class Continuance During Emergency Closure of the University: In the unlikely occurrence of a major
natural disaster or other catastrophic event, we will continue to conduct class via Moodle. You will need
to find a location where you have computer access, and we will continue with our class though this
media. You may need to go directly to Moodle’s off campus website (URL is http://moodle.latech. edu)
should TECH’s system become inoperative. Moodle has considerable redundancy and should maintain
its functionality.
Homework: The material covered in this course is cumulative and of a technical, analytical nature. To
learn the material adequately the student must study consistently—giving full attention to what is being
studied. Homework is an essential part of the learning process. Students should complete worksheet
assignments using Excel.
Resources: Textbook: International Accounting, 3rd (or 4th) Edition, Doupnik and Perera (McGraw-Hill
Irwin) 2012 (or 2015); outside reading and research may be required.
Moodle: The syllabus, assignment sheet and other class information will be available on Moodle.
Grade Information (200 total points)
Scale: 90-100 % A; 80-89 % B; 70-79 % C; 60-69 % D; and Below 60% F
Grade: Five exams @ 40 points each = 200 total points; information concerning exam content and format will
be provided on Moodle on a timely basis for each exam. NO NOTES, TEXTS, ETC. ARE ALLOWED.
Oral Communications: One (Powerpoint) presentation @ 10 points (topic to be approved in advance by
instructor)—see Moodle for additional information. Presentation points earned will be included in your Final
Exam grade.
Written Communications: At least 10% of your final grade will be determined from written communications
(College of Business requirement). This will be primarily in the form of essay questions on the Final Exam.
Final Exam Essay Questions (Participative Learning/Group Project): During the latter portion of each class, you
(and/or your group) will be provided with time to develop your answers to essay questions possibly appearing on
the Final Exam. You (and/or your group) may wish to work in the computer lab instead of remaining in the
classroom. Please do not ask me to “pre-approve” your answers to the essay questions. However, you may seek
the advice of other individuals not enrolled in the course. (Additional information will be posted on Moodle on a
timely basis.)
Exams: Exams II, III and IV are cumulative and the Final Exam (a.k.a., Exam V) is comprehensive. You must
bring your TECH Student Picture ID Cards to each of the five exams as well as the days that I “go over” the graded
exams.
Make-Up Exams: If you miss EXAM I or Exam IV (but not both EXAM I and EXAM IV), then the average
of your other exam scores will be substituted for your missing exam score. If you miss both EXAM I and
EXAM IV, then you must take a Comprehensive Make-Up Exam at the end of the quarter (time and date to be
determined by instructor). Similarly, if you miss Exam II and/or Exam III and/or the Final Exam, then you
must take a Comprehensive Make-Up Exam at the end of the quarter (time and date to be determined by
instructor). If you miss more than (any) two exams, then you will receive an “F” in ACCT 485. There are no
“drop exams” (etc.). Note: The number of points assigned to the Comprehensive Exam will vary
proportionately with the number of exams missed. Additionally, the content and format of the Comprehensive
Exam may vary with the particular exam(s) missed by a particular student.
NOTE: “In the event of a question regarding an exam grade or final grade, it will be the responsibility of the student
to retain and present graded materials which have been returned for student possession during the quarter.”
