Angeles City & Pagsanjan Waterfall Tour
4 days and 4 nights
Visit the former American ”Clark Airbase”.
Angeles City with Mount Pinatubo and its exciting nightlife.
The spectacular Pagsanjan waterfalls.
Day 1. We pick you up from the airport
(or from the previous travel module).
Next we welcome you with an Asian
buffet lunch. Time to relax at the
swimming pool of your hotel or go
shopping in Angeles City. In the
evening we spent some hours in the
sparkling nightlife of Angeles City or
visit the casino.
Day 2. Angeles City was till 1991 the
biggest American Airbase outside the
U.S.
From
Clark-Airbase
left
sometimes during the Vietnam war
more then 1.200 bombarding flights a
day. A big part of the base was a ghost
town after the Americans left. At this
moment there are developments in
progress to make from the base a big
Economic and Duty Free Zone with
many
attractions
for
shopping.
In the afternoon we visit the local
market. If you like to buy something,
then its normal to bargain about the
price. A “sport“ you will enjoy. We
make a ride in a Calesa (a horse-drawn
carriage).
Day 3. We visit the Pinatubo volcano
landscape.
This volcano had in the year 1991 the
biggest eruption of the last century.
Complete
towns
and
villages
disappeared under the lahar (a
combination of dust, sand, stones and
lava). The whole area changed to a
moon landscape. We can see how the
people adjust after the big tragedy
when most of them lost everything and
started to rebuild their lives again.
Day 4. The Pagsanjan waterfalls,
located south of Manila and the
Bumungan River belong to the top
attractions of the Philippines. The town
Pagsanjan has a beautiful antique city
gate and the old church is worth to
have a look at. Two skilful boats men
(banceros) paddle the colorful canoe
upstream over the Bumungan- River,
through the tropical forest with its
magnificent flora and fauna. This is a
day of real adventure. Our adventurous
tour reaches the magnificent mighty
Pagsanjan waterfalls. Originally named
Magdapio Falls. At the top, the
banceros will take you under the falls
on a bamboo raft. From here, you let
the water do the work. The trip
downstream
is
fast
and
very
exhilarating. Scenes of Francis Ford
Coppola’s epic Vietnam War movie
‘Apocalypse Now’ were filmed along
this stretch of river and a few relics
from the movie can still be seen along
the banks as you shoot downstream.
Don’t forget to bring an extra set of dry
clothes!
We have our diner in Manila in the
restaurant of the famous country and
western
singer
Kenny
Rogers.
Then back to your hotel in Angeles
City, airport or the startpoint of the
next travel module.
An excellent follow up is travel
modules: 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8
Manila &Taal Volcano Tour
3 days and 3 nights
See the never sleeping capital city of the Philippines.
Visit in the middle of the lake the still active Taal Volcano.
A flourishing 16th century Malay
settlement by the bank of the Pasig
River, awash with star-shaped nilad
flowers became the nucleus of the
city that later was named Manila by
the Spanish colonizers who came in
1571, establishing a historical and
commercial center that carried
influences derived from a blend of
Western and Eastern cultures.
Today, Manila is a part of a larger
political entity called Metro Manila,
which includes six other cities and
10 municipalities. It is also the
capital of the Republic of the
Philippines and home to some 20
percent of the country’s 76 million
Filipinos.
Day 1. We pick you up from your hotel
or previous travel module. We go to the
never sleeping city Manila. Nobody
really knows how many people here
live. The estimates are between 15 to
22 million people. You find many
attractions in this city. We make by
Calesa (horse-drawn carriage) a city
tour and see the Manila Cathedral and
buildings out of the Spanish and
American colonial period. We visit the
central located Rizal Park with its
botanical gardens and butterfly garden.
Impressive is the Old Spanish fort rich
Intramuros, the prison and the wall
where the national hero Dr, Rizal was
executed by the Spanish colonial
occupiers in the year 1897.
We visit on the luxurious business
heart of Manila named Makati. Also we
bring a visit to Manila Bay and
hopefully we can watch a spectacular
sunset. We visit the nightlife of this
never sleeping city with its many
restaurants, theatres, disco’s and bars.
Manila has an exciting nightlife. We
overnight in the Park hotel.
Day 2. To the south of Manila in the
middle of Lake Taal is the still active
Taal Volcano. By banca (local boat) we
go to the island with its volcano. We
ride in a relaxed tempo on the back of
a horse (with somebody next to the
horse) to the top of the volcano. On
many places the steam is still coming
out the ground from this still working
volcano. On the top we have a
beautiful view on the Crater Lake with
its still cooking water. After our visit to
the volcano we make a tour with the
boat around the island with its many
fish pans.
After our visit to the Taal volcano we
drive back to Manila. You can enjoy a
swim in the swimming pool of the Park
hotel. The hotel has a nice restaurant
where we use our dinner.
Day 3. We visit one of the colorful
markets. You will be surprised by the
cheap prices of many articles. In the
afternoon we visit one of the luxury airconditioned shopping malls. It is even
possible to ice skate here. There are
many beautiful stores offering luxury
goods for reasonable prices. For every
woman it is a shopping paradise.
Manila is a never sleeping city with rich
and poor living next to each other. One
thing you will remember the alwayssmiling children of this city.
After
dinner we drive back to Angeles City
where we stay overnight, or to the
starting point of our next travel module.
This tour can also be used as start
or end travel module. Travel
modules: 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8 are
excellent to continue with.
Remarks: In the budget class
the horse riding is not
included in the price.
Banaue Rice Terraces Tour
5 days and 5 nights
A very spectacular tour out our program
Visit ”The Eight Wonder Of The World”
The more then 2000 year old rice terraces from Banaue and Bontoc.
See the mysterious hanging coffins of Sagada.
Banaue:
One of the highlights of a trip to
Asia is the Banaue Rice Terraces,
also known as the eight wonder of
the world. An engineering marvel,
this “Stairway to the Sky” was
constructed by hand by early
Filipino settlers and is scrolled in
the World Heritage List.
Built by the hardy native Ifugaos
some 2,000 years ago, the Banaue
Rice Terraces is an engineering feat
equal to that of the Pyramids of
Egypt. Known as the eight wonder
of the world, the terraces were
carved by hand and cover an area of
approximately 20,000 hectares in the
Cordillera
mountain
range
in
Northern Luzon. The Banaue Rice
Terraces is a monument to man’s
genius in turning a rugged and
forbidden terrain into a source of
sustenance.
Day 1. We drive from Angeles (or our
previous travel module) through the
rice fields, hills and mountains to
Banaue. We visit the Viewpoint and
see its famous old rice terraces. We
watch the products made by the
mountain people.
Day 2. Visit to an Ifugao village. After
lunch we make a rough two-hour ride
through the Cordillera Mountains to
Bontoc. We overnight in Bontoc.
Day 3. We go high in the mountains of
Kalinga province. About 30 minutes by
foot over a mountain trail and a
hanging bridge to a local village. Here
time has stood still. We see the simple
but happy life of the people here. We
go back to Bontoc and visit the small
but interesting (by a Belgium non
started) Bontoc Museum. Here we can
see the daily use and cultural articles of
the mountain tribes. There are also
articles shown from the Toradja and
Dajak tribes. These tribes come
originally from Indonesia (Borneo and
Celebes). Two generations ago they
were still active headhunters.
Day 4. We drive a rough road to
Sagada. In Sagada we visit the
weaving and Souvenirs store. Here you
can see how the traditional materials
are woven by hand. We visit the caves
of Sagada. Over centuries the dead
have been buried here often in sitting
position. We see thousands of open
coffins a chilling experience. Of course
we do not collect some bones we
respect the dead people. On other
places we see the coffins hanging on
the mountain walls. This privilege is
only given to some. If the weather
allows it, then we make a 20 minutes
walk
through
the
caves,
with
sometimes the water level reaching to
our knees and then to the Bokong
Waterfalls. We overnight in Sagada.
Pension surrounded with a beautiful
garden
and
mysterious
rock
formations.
Day 5. We drive the adventurous Van
Halsema Mountain Highway to Baguio.
This so-called “highway” is more a
mountain path from 130 kilometres
long. The long but very adventurous
drive brings us straight trough the
beautiful
Cordillera-mountains,
an
experience that is really worthwhile.
We drive back to Angeles City or the
starting point of next travel module.
This tour is a good follow up
of travel modules 1, 2.
