FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Alston-Pleasants Post-Graduate Scholars Fund Alston-Pleasants Post-Graduate Scholars Fund Trustee Appointed September 18, 2015. Hon. Rebecca C. Spragins, Clerk of the Halifax County Superior Court, has appointed Dennis W. Organ, an Alston-Pleasants Scholar and 1966 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH), to serve as a Trustee of the Alston-Pleasants Post-Graduate Scholars Fund. Professor Organ, a former Roanoke Rapids resident, is Emeritus Professor of Management at the Indiana University School of Business. He earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from UNC in 1970 and joined the faculty at Indiana University that same year, where he remained for 38 years. Dennis has been an energetic and substantial contributor to the growth of the Alston-Pleasants community. In 2013, he made a generous contribution to the Alston-Pleasants Post-Graduate Scholars Fund in memory of the late Joseph Talley, former Principal of Roanoke Rapids High School and Superintendent of Schools in the city. He also writes a regular series of profiles for the Alston-Pleasants Newsletter, which highlight the interests and accomplishments of Alston-Pleasants Scholars and other members of the AP community. Professor Organ joins current Fund Trustees Helen N. Parker, retired Regional Administrator for the Employment and Training Administration/US Department of Labor, and J. Gilbert Stallings, retired Assistant General Counsel of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Both Dr. Parker and Mr. Stallings were also AlstonPleasants Scholars. The Fund was established in 2008 to provide graduate and professional studies scholarships to recipients of the Alston-Pleasants Scholarships established by Missouri Alston Pleasants in 1958 for selected undergraduate UNC-CH students from Franklin, Halifax and Warren Counties.
