ACCOUNTING PROGRAM PROFILE The Accounting Program at East Central College is designed to; 1. To provide students with a basic comprehensive knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting. 2. To prepare students with skills to perform general bookkeeping and accounting functions. 3. To provide students with a basic knowledge of accounting systems, and work with spreadsheets. 4. Provide students with skills to enhance entry into the accounting job market. 5. Provide students with the ability to transfer to a four year institution. A student desiring to enter the job market with the two year AAS in accounting or an accounting certificate must take the following courses: AAS DEGREE-ACCOUNTING Financial Accounting I-Lec & Lab, Financial Accounting II-Lec and Lab, Managerial Accounting Lec & Lab, Computer Assisted Accounting, Accounting Practicum, Intermediate Accounting I & II, Tax Accounting, Cost Accounting, Business Communications, Legal Environment of Business, Principles of Macroeconomics or Principles of Microeconomics, Introduction to Computers and Information Systems or Microcomputer Applications, Career Management and at least one other Business Elective. AAS DEGREE-ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATE A student seeking this degree will substitute Intermediate Accounting I & II with two other courses: Technology and Procedures and Document Production. All AAS degrees require 21 hours of general education courses. See the catalog or degree worksheet. AA DEGREE-BUSINESS All students desiring to make a transition to a four year institution seeking a bachelor’s degree must complete 21 hours from the following courses: Financial Accounting I-Lec & II-Lec, Managerial Accounting Lec, Intermediate Accounting I, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Finance, Fundamentals of Management, Legal Environment of Business, Microcomputer Applications, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Survey of Calculus and Statistics. Students should always check with the transfer institution to make sure their course work meets the transfer institution’s requirements.
