2015 TOGETHER IN ACTION APPEAL
This weekend marks the beginning of the annual
giving campaign Together in Action (TIA) appeal.
Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $62 000
in Holy Spirit Parish during last year’s campaign.
The principal theme selected by Bishop Henry for
this year’s appeal is: “Let us hold fast to the
confession of our HOPE without wavering for he
who has promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).
Bishop Henry states in his TIA message to
parishioners that “we are called to empower one
another to face our present, even if it is arduous,
in the redeeming love of Jesus - to be sons and
daughters of God.”(TIA brochure, 2015).
This
brochure which includes a donation form and
return envelope will be mailed soon. Your donation
to TIA can be placed in a collection basket, handed
in to the parish office or mailed. Cheques are to be
made payable to Holy Spirit Parish / Together in
Action.
In today’s reading from the Book of Genesis,
God makes his covenant between Noah and
all living beings. Saint Peter, in the second
reading, draws a connection between the
saving of Noah and his family in the great
flood and the saving waters of baptism.
Following his temptation in the desert, Jesus
begins his public ministry by proclaiming the
kingdom of God.
On Sunday, February 22nd, the
Catechumens will celebrate the Rite of
Election and the Candidates celebrate
the “Call to Lenten Renewal” at St.
Mary’s Cathedral with Bishop Henry
presiding. These Rites signify that they have listened to
the Word of God, have prepared for the Sacraments and
are now welcomed by the faithful of our Diocese to
become full members of the Catholic Church at Easter
Vigil. This is preceded by a Rite of Sending at the 11:00
am Mass, in which our faith community sends them off
to the Cathedral with our loving support and prayers.
God bless you all on your journey of Faith.
Rejoice in God’s Mercy:
A Hug from God Is All You Need
The Diocese of Calgary invites you to re-discover the
meaning of the sacrament of Reconciliation in your life.
In addition to the regular parish schedule, the sacrament
of Reconciliation will be available at parishes throughout
the Diocese of Calgary all the Wednesdays of Lent from
7:30 – 8:30 pm.
February 22: Lent I
Every time we respond to a call from God, we receive grace
and are interiorly strengthened. As we begin Lent, the
desert is not a place for us to fear, but a place of
encountering the Holy Spirit. The Spirit can reveal what
binds us, as well as what steals from our freedom to be the
person God created us to be. The beginning of intimacy
with God flows through the exercise of the theological
virtues: faith, hope, and love. God uses every trial to
strengthen us in these virtues and transform us into the
image of His Son.
Action: Throughout the forty days of Lent, pray for an
increase in faith, hope, and love. Ask for the grace to see
your trials from God’s perspective; how are these trials
opportunities to develop the virtues you are praying for?
