Retailer’s Only Missouri Store Honors Old Glory on Flag Day, June 14
St. Louis, Missouri (June 10, 2013) -- Flag Day, which takes place annually on June 14, is the
commemoration of the American flag and is celebrated by proudly displaying the flag in front of homes or
businesses. Flag World at St. Louis Outlet Mall in Hazelwood, the retailer’s only Missouri store, offers more
than 20,000 flags including a large variety of American flags to help anyone celebrate this patriotic day.
What exactly is Flag Day? To honor the centennial of the original flag resolution, on June 14, 1877, Congress
instructed that the U.S. flag be flown from all public buildings. A few years later, a young Wisconsin
schoolteacher named Bernard J. Cigrand began promoting the idea of national Flag Day observances.
President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 calling for a nationwide observance of Flag Day,
but it wasn’t until 1949 that an Act of Congress signed by President Harry Truman designated June 14 as
National Flag Day.
“Though it doesn’t get as much attention as other national holidays, Flag Day is among the most patriotic
days of the year,” said Wael Malhas, co-owner of Flag World. “We get a real sense of pride in seeing our flags
on houses, businesses and in the hands of people of all ages.”
Flag World at St. Louis Outlet Mall offers an extensive selection of American flags including decorative flags,
flag poles kits, parade flags, and indoor flags which are perfect for an office desk. One of the newest trends is
retro flags such as the original Betsy Ross Flag, the Gadsden Flag, Civil War flags, as well as the Star Spangled
Banner.
With Memorial Day in late May and Independence Day in early July, there will be many flags standing tall across
the nation throughout the month of June. In addition to the American flag, Flag World offers flags for all
branches of the military, including the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard, as well as flags from
all 50 states, other countries, and favorite sports teams.
