IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

School shot requirements have changed! Certain shots are now required for students entering 6th grade--and they are recommended for all youth age 11 through 18 years. In order to help kids get "caught up", the Health Department is offering immunization visits at

$15* for a limited time, no matter how many of the required/recommended shots children need. There is no out-of-pocket charge for children enrolled in a Medicaid Program , no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Call the Health Department to schedule an appointment at 800-432-4121 if your child has not had the following required vaccines from age 11 through 18 years old: one dose of

Meningococc al “Meningitis” Vaccine, one dose Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis Vaccine

(Tdap) and two doses Varicella (Var) Chickenpox Vaccine or history of chickenpox disease In addition, three doses of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) Cervical Cancer Vaccine are recommended (not required) for all females age 11 through 26 to reduce the risk of cervical cancer in women. Your child’s physician’s office or the Health Department can tell you what

“shots” your child needs to meet new school requirements.

*Families are eligible for $15 immunization visits at the Health Department if their children are uninsured, their insurance policy does not cover immunization, they've exceeded your health insurance “prevention” allowance, or they have co-pays or deductibles for immunizations.

Medicaid covers immunizations; there is no charge for children enrolled in a Medicaid program.

Tuition Management Systems

Just a reminder to parents to please return the Tuition Management Systems

Enrollment forms to the school office as soon as possible. TMS has asked for a four week lead time to enter everyone into their system. Those parents who have chosen the 12-month billing option will have their first bill sent in late June.

Concerns have been expressed in regard to the use of credit cards for paying tuition. Credit cards may be used, with the exception of Visa, as TMS does not have a working agreement with Visa. A 2.99% fee will be charged for the use of credit cards. It is easy to overlook the fact that when a credit card is used a fee is charged to the vendor. In the past, this is a fee St. Mary’s has incurred, amounting to approximately $5,000 per year. We can not afford to continue with this expense.

An additional concern was raised regarding calls made to Tuition Management

Systems with questions. There is no cost to call TMS. The only time a cost would be incurred is if a payment is processed by a representative over the phone, there is a $10 cost for this. Parents are encouraged to either pay tuition with their bill, or to enter payments online. Please be assured phone calls to TMS with questions are free of charge.

I know this change in billing procedure for tuition may be a difficult adjustment, but it is a necessary measure. We do not have the personnel to maintain an efficient billing system, nor can we afford the credit card costs associated with tuition payments. These are challenges multiple school systems within our diocese have faced, each has found it necessary to partner with an outside firm as well.

As always, if anyone has a question or concern, please do not hesitate to either give me a call or contact me via email (989-732-5448 or jpoteet@stmarycathedral.org).
