My name is Andrea Schwebel and I am running for the position of President. I’m a third year student studying towards an honors specialization in Media Information and Technoculture. For the past three years, I have been actively involved in Western Jewish campus life in various official and unofficial roles, such as designing sets for Rocky Horror Picture Show, tabling events in the UCC, planning Shabbat dinners and serving on IOC’s programming committee. This year, I am both the Creative Director for
Hillel as well as Vice President of Membership for Israel on Campus.
I want to be the future President of Hillel because I strongly believe in its value as a Jewish home on campus. As one of the three largest clubs at Western, I want to make Hillel a place where all 3500 Jews feel they have a place to connect to Judaism in their own unique ways. As President, I propose to bring positive change to our Hillel by engaging out diverse Jewish student body to find their voice.
I want to work with you to create a wide array of activities that are fun and exciting that cater to different aspects of Jews across the spectrum such as mixers, speaker series and movie nights. With my dedication to programming and education, I plan on creating programs to learn and discuss a multitude of Jewish ideas from such as holidays, customs and other relevant topics. Through collaborating with other clubs and organizations around campus with similar goals and values, I intend on expanding
Hillel’s reach beyond the Jewish community and making us an integral part of the Western community.

My name is Talia Rotman and I am running for Hillel President. I am in my Third Year studying Global
Development at Huron College. I am running for President because I believe that I am the best candidate to bring organization, inclusiveness and fun to the club. As a global studies student I understand the importance the bigger picture, if I am elected President I will use my global knowledge to make the
Jewish community at Western a better place to be. Having sat on both the Social and Outreach committees this year, I know what it takes to plan a successful event. I am organized, enthusiastic and I am willing to do what it takes to make Hillel the best club it can be. I plan to use Hillel to bring people from all years together and foster a fun and exciting environment. If I am elected president I promise to make sure everyone’s voice is heard and that Hillel will be able to reach its full potential. Together we can work together and to make next year at Hillel a memorable one.
Born and raised on the prairies, my home life is a mystery to all you who come from the BIG city of
Toronto. When not caring to my family’s herd of dairy cows, I was heavily involved in my high schools student council, serving as Class President in grade 9, 10, and 11, and as Head Boy in grade 12. I was also heavily involved in the B’nai Brith Youth Organization serving as my chapters President, Vice-President and secretary at one time or another. Since coming to Western I have been heavily involved with Hillel,

and clubs life as a whole. I am currently the Vice-President Membership for Hillel, and sit on the
Western Diabetes Club executive as well. I am no stranger to Hillel, or the clubs scene at Western and am ready to take on a bigger role next year. Before I came to Western I did not know a single Jewish person here, but 2 years later here I am running for Hillel exec, and I think that says something about our community here. I truly believe we can use Hillel to really unite the Jewish community at Western.
Through actively promoting programs, and getting as many people involved in the organizing of programs Hillel can have a larger presence in the already strong Jewish community at Western.
Hi my name is Noah Fenyes, I am from Saskatoon Saskatchewan and I am running for vice president of Hillel. After serving as V.P for first years, I see tons of potential for growth and improvement in the up coming year. With a Jewish student population of just over 3000, it is my goal to see a vast increase in participation. In order to achieve this goal, it is essential that different means of communication are utilized. With technology today it should not be hard to reach every single member.
These changes in communication will contribute to both greater attendance at programs as well as a desire to be involved with the club. As vice President I plan on working with the President and the rest of the board to achieve my objectives and to maximize Hillel’s potential. I believe that I am qualified for this position because of my prior experiences. Throughout my five years in BBYO (B’nai B’rith Youth
Organization) I held numerous board positions including, Jewish programmer, treasurer, and two terms of presidency where I gained the experience and leadership skills necessary to be effective in a position such as Vice President of Hillel. I am strong team player who works cooperatively with others to achieve a common goal and I understand the importance of good leadership in furthering the clubs aims. My experience as treasurer of BBYO has given me a solid financial background and has prepared me for the responsibilities associated with overseeing the clubs finances. I have lots of ideas for next year and would love to have the opportunity to achieve them. A few of my ideas include; expanding the first year membership outreach and involvement to ensure a strong future for Hillel. I want to plan diverse and regular programs to improve membership. My passion for Judaism will make this position not only one that I will be successful at, but one that I will greatly enjoy.
My name is Aubrey Chapnick. I was born on August 12 1991 in Toronto Ontario and am currently enrolled in the Management and organization studies (specialization in commercial aviation management) program at the University of Western Ontario where I am training to become a Pilot. For my elementary schooling, I attended the former United Synagogue Day School bavyiew campus and continued by Jewish education afterwards at the Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto. During tenure at CHAT, I was involved with many extra circular activities both with and outside the school.
Regarding in-school involvement, I was a co-head of the live music club, a member of the “lunch thing” committee and both played and coached for the CHAT rugby team (receiving both player and coaching awards). In terms of out of school involvement, I both trained in (for 12 years) and taught (for two years) martial arts (earning my black belt in grade 10), was the leader of 3 musical groups (playing in numerous charity concerts in venues around downtown Toronto) and worked as both an assistant unit head and

regular staff member at Bayview Glen Day Camp during the summer months. During my university career, I have fathered my school involvement by joining the Bands club, Western Aviation Society and the bungee jumping club. I also served as a Head Frosh-Soph during frost week and organized residencewide programming throughout the week (later receiving Frosh-Soph of the year award). My other personal hobbies include cooking, and maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. I look forward to increasing my involvement with both Hillel and the Jewish Community of Western in the last two years of my Undergraduate degree.
My name is Arielle Kaplan and I am running for VP Community for Hillel 2011-2012. I am currently in third year in the honours psychology program. I have been involved in Hillel since my first year at
Western where I started as a Med-Syd residence representative. With this role, I assisted in planning many first year events, including Atrium day and Jewshi at Alumni House. Joining Hillel in first year allowed me to meet many new people and thus, feel connected to the Jewish community at Western since I did not attend any Jewish day schools growing up. As I thoroughly enjoyed planning that year's
Coffee House, it sparked my decision to join the Social Committee. Since 2009, I have helped plan and run many successful Hillel events such as fun-filled bagel brunches, themed parties, social events at the
Hillel house and talent-filled Coffee Houses! I am organized, outgoing, responsible, and always love to meet new people. As a result of the experience and knowledge that I gained as a residence representative and an active member of the social committee over the past three years, I feel that Hillel would benefit greatly from my contributions and passion towards this committee and I would love to be represent Hillel as VP Community for the 2011-2012 school year.
My name is Sarah Levin, and I am currently in my third year of studies at the Richard Ivey School of
Business. I have been an active member of Hillel for the past three years, being VP Internal on the first year Hillel Committee, and I have been a member of the Social Programming Committee for the past two years. I believe that my experience in these roles will help me excel in the VP Community position.
I have been extremely fortunate to have met such amazing people through Hillel, and have been participated in and planed many successful programs. I love being part of a group that helps to develop a variety of social events that brings people together from different parts of the university. I have a strong network of friends from different areas of student life, from whom I can facilitate feedback from and create diverse programs that will attract many people. Hey guys, my name is Shana Gordon-Katz and I am a second year Science student. I would love to be your Hillel Jewish Life VP for the upcoming school year. I have been on Hillel for the past two years.
During first year, I was Elgin representative and this past year I have served/worked as an active member of the Jewish Life Committee. And, I am ready to take on more of a leadership role as a member of Hillel executive council next year.
I have always had a strong connection to my Judaism. From being raised in a home that celebrates every
Jewish holiday and where chicken soup is the cure for every ailment, to my formal education at Bialik
Hebrew Day School and CHAT, my bond with my Jewish roots has been nurtured and strengthened. At
CHAT, I not only learned about Israel and my Judaism but I also learned how to be a leader. However, the most important thing I learned at CHAT was the importance of establishing a kehilla, a Jewish community. In the past two years, I have made the Western Jewish community my new kehilla, regularly attending Chabad Shabbat dinners and participating in many Hillel and IOC events. Our kehilla at
Western has been enhanced and strengthened by the talent, knowledge, and dedication everyone brings to the table and contributes. As I enter the second half of my undergraduate career, I would love to have the opportunity to give back and contribute even more to the wonderful Western kehilla. Went to Israel for the year last year to a seminary called Machon Maayan. The program was very much based around allowing each girl to find their own path in
Judaism and in life through learning, volunteering, friendships and most importantly building relationships with your teachers and creating mentors. I personally (very biased) think it did a remarkable job at this for me and every girl on the program and created a unique bond to friends, teachers and Judaism, which I am forever grateful for and hope to live my life by.

I think that there is so much potential in the Jewish community at Western and think we can use prior and new methods to access it.

As a first year student at UWO I have made sure to become involved in extra-curricular activities including being a part of this past years T’zedeck Committee. I enjoy taking time to give back to the community, a passion that I developed in high school. In high school I was a member of the student council and was the head of the Environment Committee which the Most Improved Committee of the year for our numerous successful programs. I also co-captained an MS walkathon team which raised over $10,000 for the MS Society of Canada. This year as a member of the Hillel T’zedeck Committee I ran a successful toiletry drive for the Women’s House of London.
In general I would describe myself as someone who gets things done. I am not one of those people who talks a lot about things they want to do, but never ends up doing them. I constantly seek new challenges and new opportunities to improve skills that I already have. That is why I wanted to become a lifeguard, and is why for the first half of this school year, worked toward my NLS which I eventually achieved.
I hope that the position of VP T’zedeck will give me the forum to really showcase what t’zedeck is all about, and to display to the UWO community what the Jewish community is capable of doing for the community at large.
My name is Natalie Zamick and I am running for the position of VP Tzedek on Hillel’s Executive council for next year. I am currently in my third year working towards an honours specialization degree in medical sciences. This past year I have served in this position, VP-Tzedek, and have had the opportunity to meet lots of people and create meaningful contacts. I plan on using these contacts with many key members of the London community that can ensure our events are even more successful next year. I have learnt a lot in my capacity as VP-Tzedek this year, and believe that I can build upon what I started this year to ensure an even more successful year. I want to continue with our annual events but make them bigger and even better than before. I also would like to pick a charity to raise money throughout the year so that we can make a very significant donation. I would love to have the opportunity to continue in this position and to act as a representative for Hillel again for the 2011-2012 school year!
