has one toll-free phone number to report child abuse and neglect 24/7, 365 days a year.
Please call the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-844-CO-4-KIDS

to report concerns about a child’s safety and well-being. All calls are confidential and will be routed to the county where a child resides.

TANF/Colorado Works Eligibility Unit
This Unit Determines Initial and Ongoing Eligibility for the Following Programs:
Food Assistance
Food assistance to supplement your monthly food budget.
Colorado Works (Temporary Aid to Needy Families)
Financial and medical assistance for families. Maximum of 60 ths assistance during adult’s
lifetime. Must be in some type of work activity 20-35 hours per week within 24 months.
Baby Care/Kids Care (BCKC)
Medical Benefits Only for pregnant women. Medical Benefits Only for children born after
September 30, 1983, whose family’s income and resources are below the maximum allowable.
Medical Assistance
Medical Benefits Only for families whose income and resources are below the maximum
allowable. Emergency Medical Benefits for undocumented aliens.
General Assistance
A one-time assistance payment for persons in need, income and resources are to be verified.
Repayment agreement is usually required.
Applications for the above programs may be picked up at our agency.
Adult Programs

Determines eligibility for the following programs:
• Old age pension for people over 60 years old and under 65 for money payment and
modified Medicaid coverage.
• For people over 65, old age pension benefits for Medicaid coverage and money payment.
• All people that enter the nursing home and need medical coverage, complete disability
forms for those people that are under 65 with no disability income.
• Determines financial and resource eligibility for home care and home community based
programs.
• All Q’s eligibility for Medicare supplement programs.
• Food stamps for eligible households, including migrant households.
• LEAP for fuel assistance to help with fuel costs.
• Initial Medicaid coverage for all people in the state receiving SSI (Supplemental Security
Income)
• Receives and processes applications for state A.N.D., an income basis assistance for people
over 18 and under 60 claiming disability.
• Medicaid transportation.
• Referrals to other agencies, such as mental health, vocational rehabilitation, medical
corrective program.
• Verfication of income requested for taxes, commodities, etc.
• Gives presentations on various program areas including nursing homes.
• All applicants are interviewed for eligibility and cases are processed in a timely manner.
Fraud & Recovery Unit

The Rio Grande Department of Social Services Fraud and Recovery Unit is responsible for two
distinctive, but equally important duties. The first is to ensure public assistance program
integrity by using innovative and prescribed investigation methodology, to prevent, detect, and
prosecute welfare fraud. The Fraud Unit investigates fraud in all program areas handled by the
Department of Social Services. The second is to collect all claims, judgements, and recoveries
by utilizing all collection methods, including monthly billing, demand letters, state hearings, and
Civil Court proceedings. The Recovery Unity collects all program monies owed to the
Department of Social Services.

OPTIONS for Long Term Care provides case management for publicly funded programs for
individuals receiving skilled, or non-skilled care in the community. OPTIONS also provides
Medicaid nursing home admissions when the recipient enters the nursing home from the
community. Programs available through OLTC include Home and Community based services
and Home Care Allowance. Recipients must be eligible for, or receiving Medicaid. OPTIONS
also provides private pay case management for individuals.
Child Support Enforcement Unit

The Child Support Enforcement Unit is responsible for locating absent parents, establishing the
paternity of children born out of wedlock, establishing child support obligations and medical
support, reviewing the order for a possible adjustment, and enforcing and collecting current and
outstanding child support for TANF and Non-TANF cases.
TANF applicants are mandatory referrals to Child Support Enforcement Unit and custodial
parents who do not receive TANF can apply for child support services for a one-time $20.00
application fee.
