TNAC builds developmental and academic assets through high quality, structured mentoring, tutoring, and out of school youth programs serving at-risk children in grades K-8. TNAC will provide mentors, tutors and volunteers in Duluth Minnesota and 10 surrounding counties. Site AmeriCorps Position Title: Technical Assistance and Training Specialist Purpose of Position: To support the Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota’s (MPM) statewide capacitybuilding initiatives to expand and sustain quality youth mentoring programs for every child in Minnesota. The Technical Assistance and Training Specialist will enhance the ability of MPM’s Training Institute to implement new quality assurance tools, technical assistance and training services, and will expand outreach to mentoring programs throughout the state, with a special focus on Greater Minnesota. Position Scheduling: Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some evening/weekend obligations possible Requirements: • Must be at least 17 years old • High school graduate/G.E.D. recipient or agreement to complete a G.E.D. • U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien • Final candidates will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check before being officially enrolled by the True North AmeriCorps Program Benefits: • Education award upon successful completion of program • Modest living allowance on the 15th and last day of each month of service • Student loan forbearance (on qualifying student loans) • Basic health insurance (Full Time Members) • Childcare assistance (Full Time Members) • Leadership skills • Skills in volunteer management Desirable Characteristics: • Ability to interact with others and build positive relationships • Volunteer experience and a desire to develop a strong ethic of service • Skills or desire to build strong youth, adult, and community collaborations • Has initiative to see and follow through with “next steps” to be taken • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, social work or related field • Success with projects demonstrating outreach, coalition-building and leadership abilities • Experience with teaching, training or public speaking/presentations • Strong oral and written communication skills; experience with online research considered a plus Essential Functions: • Plan, organize, and coordinate in school and/or out of school youth programs focusing on K-8th grade • Complete necessary evaluation components that measure academic and/or developmental asset gains in youth • Recruit and engage volunteers of all ages in service, developing one-time service projects and creating on-going volunteer opportunities • Complete five civic engagement activities including Semester of Service Project • Participate in all True North AmeriCorps required trainings, retreats, and assignments • Communicate regularly with site supervisor, program staff, and TNAC Program Coordinator Secondary Functions: • Participate in site-sponsored activities and trainings • Building community collaboration through committees and partnerships Site-Specific Functions: • Support implementation of Quality Initiative through follow-up with organizations using new program quality assessment process, dissemination of key resources, direct outreach • Respond to requests for assistance from new mentoring programs by providing best practices information and facilitating initial consultation meetings • Deliver training sessions to volunteer mentors, and assist with delivery of best practices training modules to mentoring program staff • Organize and schedule community training workshops; identify possible venues and negotiate responsibilities of co-hosts for shared community-based trainings • Support functions of mentoring practitioners network(s) by convening Steering Committee and recruiting new members, and by assisting with planning and promotion of network meetings • Support development of webinars connecting research and practice by monitoring mentoring research, creating presentation materials and assisting with session facilitation • Promote Quality Initiative and Training Institute products and services through the Training Institute e-newsletter and social networking tools Please Note: • Qualified individuals with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply • True North AmeriCorps provides reasonable accommodation for qualified individuals upon request • This document is available in alternative formats
