Course Description:This is a basic technical course which aims at cultivating students’ ability of
design. Emphasis is laid on basic knowledge, basic theories and basic methods. In training
students’ practical ability, the emphasis is laid on basic design. The contents include: analysis of
planar mechanism, planar mechanical linkages, cam mechanisms, gear mechanisms, gear trains,

Course Description:This is a comparatively complicated comprehensive experiment course,
which aims at making students design the materials, processing route and parameters, conduct
practical experiment and analyze comprehensively the results. From the given mechanical parts,
students should be able to choose proper materials, analyze the hardness and metallurgical phase
of the materials, decide the methods of pre-heat treatment, quenching, final heat treatment and
chemical heat treatment, carry out testing of hardness and metallurgical phase before/after every
heat treatment, take the photograph of the metallurgical phase after chemical heat treatment, and
write an experiment report.
