Napoleon Makes the News
“Extra Extra: the great leader is dead”
“I am no ordinary man!”
Was he a great leader and patriot, or was he a power-hungry dictator?
Napoleon Bonaparte is dead. His meteoric rise and catastrophic fall from grace is the
stuff of legends. Create the front page of a newspaper on the day of Napoleon’s death.
The components below must be incorporated creatively and skillfully into the project.
The Requirements:
1. A bold and eye-catching newspaper name and banner
2. Timeline: 10 significant events in his life, neatly presented and in chronological
order, each briefly explained. Also include symbols for each event.
3. Map: clearly illustrate the growth of his empire and all relevant and
significant dates.
4. Napoleon’s early life and career: in chart form, demonstrate how Napoleon
used various events and individuals for personal and professional opportunities.
5. The Civil Code and Women: 1 paragraph, write an editorial expressing the editor’s
views of the role of women in Napoleonic France.
6. Write a two paragraph article outlining his positive and negative contributions
to French society.
7. The fall and death of Napoleon: 1 paragraph article outline the events which lead to
Napoleons abdication and exile.
8. 1 political cartoon
9. Any extras you can come up with.
