THE FACULTY OF LIFE SCIENCES
The Faculty of Life Sciences is located principally on the Bundoora West Campus of RMIT.
Located at this campus are:
 School of Medical Sciences
 Department of Biotechnology and Environmental Biology
 Department of Complementary Medicine,
 Department of Nursing and Midwifery.
Located on the City campus of RMIT is the VET sector
 Department of Health & Biological Sciences.
The Faculty provides a comprehensive range of VET, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in
the life sciences. In keeping with the traditions of RMIT, these courses give particular emphasis to
practical and vocational applications of the skills and knowledge taught.
Position Description – Information Technology Trainee – Certificate IV in Network Management
The commercial activities of the Faculty are coordinated by the Industry Training and Consultancy
Unit. Among the Unit’s activities are the running of short courses, tendered projects and
customising training programs for industry, both on and off-shore.
The Faculty is continuing to develop and expand its already extensive research activities, with the
goal of conducting high quality research to the benefit of the Australian community. Research is
concentrated within areas relevant to environmental management, fitness, maintenance of health
and prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of disease. The increased skills and knowledge
gained through research flow directly to the undergraduate programs.

JOB SUMMARY
The appointee will provide professional IT support as a member of the Faculty of Life Sciences IT
Support Team. This will include Helpdesk operation and support, basic PC support, the update and
maintenance of the Faculty Hardware/Software database, network duties and other duties as
directed.
The appointee will undertake a traineeship operating over 2 years, during which time they will be
trained to Certificate IV level in Network Management..

The appointee will report to the IT Manager.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

To provide an efficient and effective level of client support via direct desktop servicing or
operation of the Faculty Helpdesk.
6.2
Contribute to the overall delivery and support of technology solutions by: undertaking
tasks and duties assigned by supervisor; utilising existing knowledge; developing skills
through on-the-job learning and experience.
6.3
Ensure contribution to the highest quality service by adhering to the measures and
standards of the position undertaken
6.4
Assist the group’s development by: promoting a spirit of team membership; assisting other
staff when required.
6.5
Contribute to the development and programming of database systems that support the
Faculty T&L activities as required.

To assume joint responsibility for career development by actively participating in various
activities and producing a jointly agreed development plan identifying key areas, which
will assist in your personal and professional development.
6.7
Undertake combined on and off the job structured training. The training component will
be based on an industry developed training package involving learning units based on
available industry competency standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
The trainee will have some experience working with computers and potential to learn and develop
with training. After successful completion of training through practical learning experience on the
job, off the job, or a combination of on and off the job training the trainee will obtain a Certificate
IV in Network Management or Database Administration.
