BHS Academic Decathlon
Thirty six students from the Bellefonte Academic Decathlon team competed in the
Central Pennsylvania Academic Decathlon Winter Scrimmage hosted by Bishop Neuman
on the campus of Lycoming College on Wednesday, January 14, 2009. The students
tested in four areas, which included Economics, Math, Music and Super Quiz. Eighteen
of the thirty-six students brought home 24 medals and an overall second place in the team
scores.
The competition schools included St. John Neumann, South Williamsport, Mo Valley,
Cambria Heights, Penns Valley, Philipsburg, & Montoursville whose team members
were the overall highest scoring team of the event.
The team was accompanied by student helper Megan Helwig, coaches: Randy Trutt &
Martha Nastase plus Rob Irwin, computer specialist.
The teams will meet on February 6 & 7, 2009 at State College High School for the
District Competition where they will vie for the chance to advance to the State
Championship to be hosted in early March , 2009, at Moniteau High School near Butler,
Pennsylvania.
