University

(Oshawa, Ontario, October 29, 2015) – Today, GM Canada president and managing director Steve Carlisle toured the McMaster University campus in Hamilton,

Ontario as part of the Company’s efforts to inspire and support innovation for the future of the automobile.

Carlisle said, “Today’s tour was an eye opener for me and was an exceptional opportunity to see some of the latest thinking in our industry. At GM Canada, we have an aggressive R&D agenda so our purpose today was to learn and explore areas where we might work together on strategic innovation partnerships.”

“McMaster University's Faculty of Engineering has a long-standing history of innovative research in the automotive sector," said Ishwar K. Puri, McMaster's Dean of

Engineering. "Our Faculty is committed to building the car of the future. We welcome this opportunity to broaden our students' knowledge of future trends in the auto sector and to strengthen our research partnerships with General Motors.”

Carlisle toured McMaster University meeting with engineering students and faculty members who participated in the EcoCAR and Formula SAE student competitions,

Software and Controls faculty members and the Microscopy Lab & battery research.

Carlisle also spoke to McMaster students about auto sector careers and the role of GM

Canada's Engineering Centre in Oshawa in key areas of auto innovation today including vehicle electrification, "connected car" systems, the move to autonomous driving vehicles and new approaches to urban mobility.

The Canadian Engineering Centre is currently hiring more than 100 software and controls engineers to support a new mandate related to “connected car” systems, environmental and urban mobility solutions.

Carlisle added, “We already have a strong history together and what I saw today underscores that McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering has significant strengths in key areas of innovation that fit with our future plans at GM.”
